Lake District bivi 29th Oct to 1st Nov (Halloween)

Post by benp1 »

Following my thread about Bikepacking options from Liverpool (http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB ... f=7&t=6270) I now have the green light so all systems are now go

My plan is as follows

Drop off in Liverpool around lunchtime on Friday 30th October – 2pm ish?
Head off on an adventure
Pick up in Liverpool around lunchtime on Sunday 1st November – 1pm ish?

Depending on the exact adventure plans the start and end times change as I’ll need to factor in travel time

Current options are looking like
- Lakes adventure
- Mary Towneley Loop, maybe with some extra bits bolted on
- Leeds Liverpool Canal, starting in Liverpool, then train back

Not necessarily in that order but Lakes is my current preference. The main deciding factor is weather, but we won’t know that till closer to the time. The other deciding factor is if anyone wants to join, hence the thread, and if they have any particular preferences

Outline plan for the trip would be
Leave from start point (c. 2pm if in Liverpool, 4pm in Lakes)
Ride for a few hours, sunset is at 1638
Find a bivi spot and set up camp
Ride all the next day, sunset is 0652 and sunset is 1636
Bivi somewhere again
Ride to end point (which is either the car or Leeds rail station if it’s the canal trip). End point arrival is around 11am I guess?

Distance to be agreed, route to be planned, details to be finalised. Trip is more about having fun (hopefully) and being outdoors than covering huge distances

A couple have registered vague interest but probably easier to start a new thread, so, anyone keen? Everyone welcome!

PS – apologies for the title, being a soft Southerner I have no idea if this really counts as a North West bivi? It’s a guess!

PPS – my other mid week mid wales mid November bivi, which I realise isn’t long after (10/11 November), is still going ahead too if anyone fancies it - http://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB ... f=8&t=6199

edit - PPPS - this was called a North West Bivi, but it's now very likely to be a Lake District bivi so I've updated the title

I'd love to join you but I'm fat bike racing in Holland the weekend after so there is not point asking SHMBO this time.

One thing to note, getting more than 3 or 4 riders with bikes on the 2 trains you will need from Liverpool to Leeds may be an issue with the train guards.

That's a shame, next time! Hoping the Lakes works out weather wise

Who is SHMBO? I always thought it was SWMBO?
