Rhayader Riding

Post by custardfeet »

Am thinking of planning an over night ride in the October half term, for those of you that don't teach or have kids, that's 21st Oct. to 1st Nov. Nothing to long. Hoping to find somewhere in Rhayader to park, (suggestions welcome) and ride from there, stopping at a Bothy for the night. Anyone interested?

There's good parking all over the place in / around Rhayader, I wouldn't be too worried about that. I've left the car on the main street a number of times, and there are a number of gravel areas around that work nicely too.

Related, can heartily recommend the final descent on this ride: http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=ofoyvrrgfhxsdooe (where this starts / ends is a parking area)

Rocky in places, but loads of fun if you're willing to carry speed.

Cheers Richard,

Have found a campsite to park at for a £1 a day, so no worries there. Already have a 60 mile ride planned, with an overnight Bothy stop, but thanks for the route will check it out for another time.

Gotta closer date selected for this one? I quite enjoy the riding around there and could be tempted out.

Forget the rum, you'd be better served by dry socks and a snorkel

Have planned a route away from the river, shouldn't be too wet. May take a bit longer, but who cares.

I've not stayed @ MP...but if you come in from above through the forest, do you still require the snorkel?

Stayed at MP during the WRT this year, not too bad if you come from the north, which is my plan. The other way is really riding up a river and not fun at all. Good choice of rum.

Could be up for this depending on the final date - have most of the half term week off but have a meeting to go in for on one day

You can get through the forest and drop down at path at the rear of the bothy ... but the main 'Triver' is a right of passage

That's the way I left last time, a bit damp under foot, but nothing like the river, which I swam up in May. I plan to cross the river the next morning, so am bring some beach shoes for that in an attempt to have semi dry feet for the rest of the day. Which day is your meeting, Stevemorg?

Yeah, we might have driven up the forest road and then dropped in by foot once Image

But in fairness, have done it properly and got wet feet many times Image

So by now I was hoping to have an idea when I was riding out, however the weather forecast keeps changing!! Does anyone who wants to come along got any dates in mind and I will try to fit in with those. Am trying to pick the driest couple of days in the week commencing Sunday 25th October.

How about pick a day and we'll ride whatever the weather? :) Will make it a touch easier for me to shift my work hours about.

That sounds like a plan ... after all, it's a night in a bothy, so any rain will have little effect.

That's the best plan I've heard in a while. Will talk to my wife over the weekend and fix a date. Juggling it around a couple of birthdays, so have to please everyone, especially as I'm going to be taking the car. :-bd

Possibly edging closer to fixing a date, or not. My wife has been unwell, so can't make a decision until next weekend, but I think it's looking like 29th Oct. which is my birthday!!
