Not Across Iceland on a Fatbike

Post by Catbaiter »

Recently a couple of us tried to ride North-south across the interior of Iceland. We were utterly unsuccessful, but we had a pretty good adventure in the process.

We also made a decent chunk of cash for the MNDA (£2k and counting).

After reading the account of our trip a local deli/cafe offered to host an evening where I blather on for an hour or so about our trip and show off some half decent photos. They also said that all profits would go to charity and that they'd open the bar; so I was left with little choice.

So... If you're in Bristol on the 7th of October and fancy being mildly amused by tales of wind-assisted suffering, then please come along. It's free, but donations on the night are welcome.

There's a link below, please call Source Deli and book in advance.

I should point out that I don't pretend to be in any way an expert on adventuring, biking, Iceland or public speaking. So they'll be plenty of schadenfreude to revel in if you're into that kind of thing.

Thanks, that's kind of you to say so.

I'm currently trying to make sense of some 600 photos and working out if I have anything interesting to add to them.

Having never done anything like this before, I'm suffering from a minor crisis about whether anyone will turn up, and if they do, can I keep them interested? Does the trip even warrant this? It's not like we crossed the Arctic, or even managed to achieve what we set out to do!

I'm not sure I'm cut out for this you know?!

I once went to see a famous & accomplished mountaineer talk about Scottish winter climbing, he was as drearily matter of fact it was like being read a Haynes Car repair manual. Conversely, the 'support' act was a young fella who had gone to chamonix purely because he saw a nice picture on a calendar and in doing so made every newbie mistake you could imagine. He was hilarious. I'm sure you'll be fine! :-bd

(The young guys talk was called Death Climb 2000)

You can always limit yourself to a slide per 20 seconds and not plan a thing to say! This will give a fast and furious (plus random) talk. Nice simple formula :-bd

Thanks everyone for your support. It's at 6pm tonight in Bristol if anyone is about and fancies a laugh (at my expense).

Cheers, Tom
