Newbie looking for routes

Post by Gareth5568 »

hello, I am new to the idea of bike packing but have really got sucked in by all the articles I've read on here!! I have in the past done a lot of mountaineering but mostly in North Wales, over the years I have got in to cycling and like to try new adventures when ever I can between work and family commitments!!
I live in Nottingham now but I am interested if anyone has got any advice on some 2-3 day trips in and around the Peak District??
I'd class myself as fairly active and fit as I cycle most days of the week and like to keep healthy so I'm up for a challenge!! (I may regret that comment......)
Any advice I can get on kit, routes and general day to day would be much appreciated!!

I'm new too. Can't offer much advice, but I'd say get the maps out. Only you knows what you're 'good for' ... 30 , 50, 70, 100 miles a day.
Look for bridleways and then google earth / ridewithgps and see if they actually exist on the ground.
I've sorted 2 possible loops in Radnorshire / Rhayader doing just this..... it's good fun tbh :)

The pennine brideway is amazingly well signposted was really fun to do, I the first 80 miles a couple of weeks ago, it goes on for another 100+ miles north,
