Help Required Cube Acid Brakes

Hello,

My friends got a Cube Acid 2012 model and is having issues with really squeaky brakes. The pads have been changed a number of times and the discs have been treated/cleaned but they are still making an awful noise. Please could someone advise what the best option is to stop the squeaky brakes??

What make / model are the brakes Phil? If they're Avid you may never cure it

I believe they are:

Front: Shimano BR-M445 hydr. discbrake(160/160mm)
Rear: Shimano BR-M445 hydr. discbrake(160/160mm)

or in fact possibly:

Shimano Br-M395 disc brakes (160/160mm)

Next question Phil ... when the pads have been changed have the been changed for sintered pads and always the same make / model of pad?

I think they are sintered but i am not 100% sure as they have been changed a few times at bike shops.

If they are sintered, that may be the problem as generally they're more prone to squealing especially if it's wet or even just damp. I think Shimano used to warn against fitting sintered pads to their brakes?

Anyway, I've had some good results of late with Superstar Kevlar pads: http://www.superstarcomponents.com/en/s ... rake-pads/ they 'cured' a squeal for me.

Also worth checking that all the disc bolts are tight and that the disc is actually (a) flat and (b) sitting perfectly flat on the hub. If that fails, I'd try a very thin smear of copaslip on the rear of each pad.

I used to work in a Cube dealer and these brakes have a habit of "misting" the caliper through brake fluid seepage. You can persevere with brake pad changes, rotor cleaning etc but it will likely keep recurring. For the cost/hassle I'd just invest in a set of Deores.

I put some Uberbike sintered pads in my SLX brakes, OMG, it was like kicking a cat everything you braked. To be fair they don't seem to have worn at all. Probably as I'm too embarrassed to use the brakes.

one good tip can be to rough them up a little with some sand paper if the surface has glazed up sometimes gets them bedded in right again.
tbh i only ever had this problem a couple of times and was due to contamination.
the thing about stinted pads is also a possibility they can squeak more and take longer to bed in but as far as it stopping them from working i haven't come across that really and worked in bike shops for 4 years. as far as weather you should run stinted or not that's more to do with what you are doing , when we use to ride down hill bikes , for the alps we would use stinted pads as longer descents so better ware life, better heat dissipation in stinted. in the uk all ways soft pads as they work better from cold and work better in wet and didnt need the longevity or heat dissipation. as far as xc goes stinted only make sense from a longevity view point i tend to stick with softer pads and change them more .
anyway try the sand paper thing sometimes helps.
