Guys, im off in sept for nearly three weeks so iv been looking to head to Scotland again ( as its so special ). It came up in conversation about the shooting season so im wondering if this will cause me any grief?
My plan at the moment is to head upto Fort Augustus by car which ill dump in the town. Ride the HT500 route from here and end here ( iv kinda already done the first section ) it will be a good reason to get the fatty aout again! Do any of you know if the deer stalking will effect this route at all or how tollerant are they of me riding through the area? Will i need a bright orange jacket like the yanks wear so i dont get shot by a snipper :0)
Then when im finished that I will chill out on coast for few days car camping before driving over to the Cairngorms to do the loops there......weather permitting.
So are my plans falling flat on their ass before i even start??

Do you know which estates the routes go through?
I know in the past Ive phoned up the estate office and they let me know. if they are not due to be shooting in the area then they are usually fine for access
Hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge will be along in a minute to help us with which estates the route goes through

If you stick to rights of way / core paths / main routes you've no problem. There are quite a few stalking tracks which don't fall into this category where you may get held up but usually they will be signed or you'll spot the tell tale gaggle of landrovers parked up. There is nothing on the Ht560 route that will give you any bother that way. The hillphones website is useful to check if your going off the beaten track and there is no stalking on Sundays.

Check out your route and then use this website

In practice, I've only once been advised to avoid an area as stalking was taking place, and even then I was shown an alternative route.
