I'd be interested to see how many people would be willing to stump up the $10,000 entry fee
Why is it that the toughest races in the world offer no prize money?
Are the people entering these events motivated by money?
The ultra racing scene seems to be very relaxed and friendly, with the competition being against yourself rather than everyone else. Would the financial aspect detract from this?

Tough? Is a feed station/somewhere to sleep/mechanic every 200k tough?

Wow, I can only imagine what sort of person that race will attract....might make Triathlons look friendly!

$10K - What could I do with that? Family trip to Nepal, bike packing in the Atlas mountains, couple of UK / European races and change to spare

I concur.

Reading the site, looks like a business venture to me, I don't think you'll get the real people of ultra endurance racing doing that one...

Depends what sort of terrain is in that 200km I'd say : )

Agreed on the crowd it could attract .. 2-up / pairs also so imagine the pressure that would put on a riding relationship!

Trails in RSA apparently are absolutely stunning. Mech-became-friend went along training with some friends in for the Cape Epic. He was blown away by the amount and quality of MTB trails and is considering to take part at The Munga (former road pro, now more crazy road races and MTB stage stuff).

If anyone would pay me the entry fee I'd be in. Bikepacking in RSA? Sound's good to me. Despite the format.
Yes I've changed my mind - thought otherwise at the beginning.

If you're in the need for bog and tussock trotting, you'll just have to go off the track...
