Shindig: Final Call

I'm picking up the thread for this on behalf of Bryan (zigrat), who has more than enough to do with young kids currently.

Date: 5-6 September

Type of ride: social, off road

Route:

Day 1
Leave 9-10 am from the start of the WHW in Milngavie (pronounced mull-guy for those resident outside Scotlandshire). Ride a variable distance up to 70-odd miles to bivvy site (or bothy if weather forecast poor)

Option for a later group to leave around 2pm and do 40-odd miles to bivvy site/bothy

Day 2
Variable return depending on how the mood/hangover takes you. Possibly up to 100 miles for the extra-keen, but can be much shorter but still fun.

If you would like to come along, all welcome. If you could declare your start time preference on Saturday, that would help adjust route options to suit rider experience etc

Yep, I am up for the early start.
Possibly going to ride the Capital Trail earlier in the week, depending on the weather,
making the most of the trip to Scotland.

If we head to a bothy - not sure which one Bryan has in mind - will need check.

Rochoish - MBA - Loch Lomond - bout 45mins to 1 hr South of Inversnaid.
Will phone ferry company to check out crossing Loch Lomond.

9 start in Milngavie is perfect for me, it means no stupid o'clock start to get the train in time.

I need to move. Interesting parts of the UK are just that bit too far away to just nip away to easily

(Or maybe a less time consuming job and a BMW 7 series so getting away is less effort and the time exists )

Finally joining in - sorry but middle child just out of hospital so been a bit pre-occupied.
Thinking that Rochoish might just be the best option unless an indian summer kicks in.
So in my head this will be leave Milngavie at nine, trend west to Balloch, do the Three lochs Way, ferry to Inversnaid, dinner at Inversnaid bunkhouse then trundle south to Rochoish, probably 70 miles ?? will need to see when I plot it on bike hike.
What do people want to do Sunday as there will be the options from short to long, fireroad to techy etc.??? I'm happy to just do a guided tour of the locality suitable to prevailing weather....

If we're definitely going to rochoish then me and Raju will hike in and deposit kindling/wood/coal and whisky at the Bothy.

I stayed in Doune one Saturday night and it was empty, I think because it's North of the carry on the WHW and the walk in from Beinnglas isn't too much fun either.

If your doing the "Three Lochs Way" you could head up the road afterwards to Ardlui and get the ferry over Loch Lomond, makes getting to Doune bothy a bit easier. Still leaves you needing to do the bit to Beinnglas the following morning though.

My only requirement is to be in Milngavie somewhere near 3-5pm on Sunday so I can get home at a reasonable time. TBH probably not after an epic Sunday
