There are no official maps of the high level GGW yet but I can send you a GPX file if you want. It's all pretty well signposted too.

I also have the Footprint map of the GGW which you are free to borrow.

One problem with both the WHW and GGW are that they are linear so you either ride them both ways or arrange transport of some sort to get back to your start point.

So, as a thought experiment, looking at the GGW you could make it in to more of a loop by starting at Dalwhinnie (bear with me!) and ride to Laggan via Ben Alder Lodge and Loch Pattack then over the Corrieyairack Pass to Fort Augustus, ride the GGW to Inverness and get the train back to Dalwhinnie. Haven't mapped the distances but it looks like one long day or two reasonable (multi cafe stop) ones.

Linear routes have their own attractions.

In this case, logistics is easy. There are railway stations at both ends (start at Glasgow, end at Inverness, get train to Glasgow).

Oh - and if there's a group you could always arrange transport back to the start http://www.johnogroatsbiketransport.co.uk/

Well I think we picked the wrong weekend for that!

Crianlarich to Kinlochleven on Saturday was one of the wettest days I've ever been out on the hill and the wind didn't help matters though the forecast 45mph gusts didn't materialise. I mentioned not wanting to break my wife, well I think I did  She did mention divorce and I don't think she meant the Tammy Wynette song either!

After bivvying in the woods above Kinlochleven today was much more pleasant (well other than having to put on wet cycling kit). If the weather and weekend had only been aligned.

went ok ! , did west highland way SST style , though due to bad weather torrential rain and high winds Sunday morning i finished at Fort William and didn't keep going up the great glen. so just did the WHW too 33 hours and was 95miles , took a few of the easier route options along the way where there was more than one and one was more bike friendly... the side of loch Lomond was awe full much worse than expected so that hit me a tad on the Saturday morning. 3 hours of carrying and pushing isnt how you want to start the day haha.

so e set of Friday night at 9 made it half way u loch Lomond and bivid at about the 30 mile mark.

then from there biked all the way to in between Kinlochleven and for William and bivid on the old military road at about 10.

then got in to fort William on Saturday morning at about 6:30. though did go via the bad weather option and strait down the old military road instead of glen Nevis as by the the weather was horrendous. ( i should have just keeped going on Saturday night would have been much better.

good first trip of the summer though

Yup and me.

And I had no idea that it even existed when I came to it as I'd done the whole ride on a whim
