Recommend me a tarp (hammock orientated)

Post by Cheeky Monkey »

Fancy a larger tarp that stands some chance of covering 2 hammocks. That'll only be an occassional set up so I hope it'll double duty as a big, when-weight-isn't-acrucial-issue, better cover in the less clement weather alternative to the asym' one that came with my Hennessey. Possibly hoping for too much but hey

Thinking around the £50 mark but budget can be flexed to suit desire.

Cuben is going to be too much ££

Looked at the Hennessey Hex fly which seems OK but a little confused as there seem to have been / be two versions with a big difference in weight. Overall I was hoping for a hex shape and cat' cut (though I'd be interested to hear if people think the cut is as "anti-flap" as I've read, not having used one myself before.

Suggestions of particular brands / models welcome as well as cheap outlets. Have looked on the DD and Tenth Wonder sites.

I've got a Tenth Wonder tarp I use for hammock duties and really can't fault it. I forget which model it is but it's a cat cut with ridgeline ties on the inside and velcro on the edges so you can 'shut the doors' in really foul weather.

It's PU rather than sil so isn't as light as some but it's very well made and should take some hammer ... I have to say, the cut does seem to keep everything nice and tight too.

A bit dearer than £50 but I reckon you could get two under there, no problem and it makes a huge shelter when pitched with one. Weight without guys is claimed at 538g

Got a Hex too, makes a big shelter for one but I think you'll struggle to fit two under.
I'm plenty pleased with my Superfly.
The difference in weights are the silnylon V polyester. If you can afford the sil version hex it's worth considering the superfly. 8g difference for a whole lotta tarp more.

For a cheap option, I have the one from Decathlon that we used when car camping as an added extension on our huge tent (RIP - summer trips will never be the same without you).

£25 - 290cm x 285cm inc poles and pretty heavyweight.

Alpkit bicycle 7 - £50 delivered, job done!
Time would be better spent getting the miles in instead of fretting about how many ml of meths to carry...

Well, apart from they're out of stock and it's "only" 2.8 by 2.4m. Although not small per se it's not quite the size I was after ;)

Regular, I ain't hiding from no snipers ;-)

Bloody fatal when Mat starts showing his wares. Nearly bought an underquilt but settled for another Zing It ridgeline with Dutchware. Ridgelines rock.

Going to see how much it is for a roll from the States. Not found anywhere very cheap in the UK so far.
