Week bikepacking in Scotland?

Post by AdMan »

Any advice on where to ride? We have a week in the school Easter holidays and will have to get a train up so preferably near a major city. We were thinking of doing west highland way from Glasgow then stay in fort bill for a couple days riding some trails there then ride back down and get the train back.

I've always fancied the C2C, Ullapool - Bonar Bridge ... it's only 55km each way so you could do a there and back if you wanted. I must say that I have no experience of the route so it could be awful

You could get the train to Aviemore, do the Cairngorm Loop over a couple of days then head over to Fort William via the Corrieyairack. Or head north up the Great Glen Way to Inverness when you get to Fort Augustus and return off-road to Aviemore

I'm hoping to be up that way around the first May bank holiday and have something very like what you describe in mind, Scotroutes. I think it's the Cairngorm loop ITT that weekend though, so will be trying to avoid getting in the way of the big boys.

I also fancy a C2C ride but the logistics are just that much more of a faff.

Not if you do it both ways on the same day.

The storms this last weekend sounds like they stripped a lot of the winter snow but I'd still reckon on there being quite a bit lying around for a while yet. Keep an eye on whatever webcams you can find.
