Surly karate monkey 12.2kg single speed disgracefully
Hopefully drop a big chunk of weight off her so that when she gets gears the weight doesn't go above what it is now.

Re: ITT / Bike packing bike, material?

I'd banned myself from ever looking at that site again but might make an exception.
Couple more days and I'll be alowed to do full strips and rebuilds of all 3 bikes
Re: ITT / Bike packing bike, material?
With me in the UK is an early 1990's Cadex CFM3 composite. 2006 XT group set except for rear deraileur (2012 XT w/ no clutch) and hubs (LX). Mavic 217 rims, SID Team forks, Thomson stem/post, Easton Monkey Lite bars, Fizik Aliante Twinflex saddle, WTB Nanos. ~9.5Kg unloaded.
Awaiting my return to the US is a stock 2013 Trek Superfly AL Elite 29er with a few mods. Weighs in around ~11Kg.
Revelate luggage (bar harness, feed bag, gas tank, jerry can, viscacha). No frame bag for easier HAB and 2 bottle cages. Luggage and Egg Beater triple Ti's move between bikes.

Scott scale 960 29er Alu. Approx 12.5kg. Could probably lose a kilo straight off it with a better suspension fork.

Does bamboo count as wood, even though technically it's grass?

Re: ITT / Bike packing bike, material?
Maybe it should just be "organic" to cover all the bases.Ian wrote:Does bamboo count as wood, even though technically it's grass?

Are you going to be generating some data visualisation for all this data you're collecting?

Re: ITT / Bike packing bike, material?
With a bit of searching around I reckon I could get about 2.2Kg off in weight but it would cost quite a bit. Might be easier to cut out the pies
Haven't looked at lighter wheels/tyres but I think I'd rather stick with something that can last.

Re: ITT / Bike packing bike, material?
Titanium over 11.5kg here, on a 29er+ Hardtail, weight not helped by a Rohloff hub, Surly inner tubes, 45mm wide rims, brooks saddle and Jones H Bars, but it's not built for light weight it's built for comfort and low maintenance
