29er wheels. Where from?

Post by Taylor »

Got a Niner on its way for the wife's birthday but no wheels as of yet for it.
Anybody know of any fantastic deals going on at the moment.
Don't have to be tubeless or super light, just not really heavy or really spendy.

Pretty much moon on a stick.

What forks are you fitting? ... Merlin have got XT hubs on Stans rims at under £150 a pair but hubs are 15mm front axle (I've no idea if this can be changed).

The On One 29er XC wheels don't look a bad spec but they're about £175 a pair, nice and light though. I can't fault the Superstar wheels on my Inbred but again around £170 a pair in 29" flavour.
May the bridges you burn light your way

Black/silver hubs with black rims.
Sorry should have said that. White wouldn't go. You know what women are like.

I reckon it's hard to look past the Hope wheelsets. Also, Just Riding Along build some great wheels. Mine have stayed true through thick & thin, unlike a couple of other wheel builds from elsewhere.

Have you tried Charlie the Bike Monger ? - he had some sale/ex dem wheels when I bought my KM off him - if there's nothing on his site he may be worth a ring to see what he has stashed away

Anyone used ZTR Crest rims?
They're lighter than the 'Arch' by some measure so suspect that might rule them out for bikepack loads...

Self = 76kg, then bike weight (not built yet) say 10ish and then around 10 for gear etc so probably 100kg for good measure..

I wouldn't worry, I weigh approaching that before gear, and use 24 spoke lightweight XC wheels.

Was beginning to come to the same conclusion myself - but just found Arches for a reasonable price so got them anyway.. will now of course have to find some other, lighter, newer ( ) gear to make up for the few extra grams.
