I run kenda nevegals on my mountain bike, they are a good all year round choice but too big for your requirements. On the fargo I have ran some kenda small block 8 until they wore out, now using a continental race king/mountain king combo. The only thing about the contis is they do come up quite a bit smaller than the advertised sizes (I'm running sunringle eq27 rims) and the mountain king is supposed to be a 2.2 but measures up as just slightly less than 2".
Other than that they work well, fairly light and fast rolling.
29er tyre suggestions please???

Re: 29er tyre suggestions please???
I have not used 26" Conti Race Kings but a Scottish rider, Will Snow, on TD last year had to change the rear of his 26" version in Salida, CO last year as it was quite worn. OTOH Martin Wimpenny got his 26" one's to last the race. He is barely 64kg wet through though!
I also managed to get them on ok as well unlike the previous Bonty one's where I had to employ the muscle of EnduroMark to get them on! I stuck them on the radiator's for an hour or so and the wheels in the cellar and went on a treat. Usually do run for a day or so with tubes as advised. Not sure if necessary if in a hurry though.
