I know that flatfishy is a hammock fan and I have one which gets used a few times a year.
At the moment I'm using a DD one which is great but I can't help be drawn to some of the more exotic examples
Anyone else use one/have one?

Some nice stuff on that link Nevis. The tarps look very good value, not the lightest but you can't have everything
Some really BIG tarps there too if anyone's looking for something to shelter a group.

I've got one of their cornelius tarps too, as you say good value but not the lightest. Pretty similar to a DD tarp except the DD ones have the ridge line loops which is a nice touch.
Those hammocks you linked to aren't cheap are they!

Just realised, that's $ not £.
Think I'll be sticking with my ebay special!

so this hammock thing is it really that comfy?
as a big lad would I be safe, laying back my bulk into one, I'm not sure if I'd trust the knots would ever come undone again :?

A lot of hammock manufaturers give their products weight ratings.
Hennessey do one for the bigger boys and I'm sure Warbonnett do too.

I'll be well safe in those limits
may have to try one out and see what all the fuss is about 8-)
so if I ordered one of the one Nevis gave the link for what else would I need to kit out a hammock set up?
storm rings/rope/straps etc?
so I take it thats a hammock would replace the bivi bag??

Pete, I think I'm right in saying that if you get one from the link then you shouldn't need anything else ... seems to come with straps, etc.

Sleeping bags work as a topquilt but as your compressing the bottom of the bag its becomes useless hence the underquilt to hang below the hammock and the topquilt for, er, the top.

Perhaps a 'hammock only' overnighter could be on the cards for the future
You going into hammock hire then flatfishy?

Thats three hammocks now, two suitable tarps, three underquilts and two topquilts.
Hammock hangs, my favourite.

My hammock has a pocket in the base to take a sleeping mat to provide some warmth.
