Tuscany Trail - bikepacking

Post by polarcherry »

Seen this new bikepacking trail with a race very like the Tour Divide next year in May.

Looks like a nice route in a lovely part of the world.

After a few years of road cycling touring holidays in Scotland etc fancy a bit of a change.

So 600km leisurely pace maybe over 9-10 days ending in a few days at the beach to relax. Bikepacking kit, bit if wild camping, bit of campsites with a few nights in hotels when you get to the cities. Sounds like a good way to spend a couple of weeks in the sunshine. Thinking maybe Sept next year?

Logistics of bike bags etc might be an issue. Not sure yet.

Anybody done any biking in the area or part of the trail?

FLV emailed the organiser for a GPX file. The organiser wanted him to pay for it.

I'll be keeping an eye on Strava in May

Hold on, I'm on it. That embedded track is quite easy to get hold of - let me brush up on some xml :geek:

Yup, I've grabbed those, I'll have a go at parsing it tomorrow when I boot up the proper PC.

Interested in the resulting gpx. At the end of the day the web says its on existing roads, tracks and trails, so the designer has not built the route

Cheers

Tada! Bit of clever find and replace on the raw lat/long points listed from the source code on the website and a few extra gpx xml tags added, and we have ourselves a gpx file :-bd

Zippy, that's useful work... How do I convert that link to a garmin file? Thanks. I'm happy making a route up as I go but would be interested to look at this route closer as it sounds like one where a fat-tyre road bike could cope. I had it down as something to look into after being in Tuscany this summer. Lovely area, would be great later in the year. It's either that or the forest tracks and quiet roads in Provence, very similar areas in many ways.

Good work!

I've uploaded it to gpsies http://www.gpsies.com/map.do?fileId=ptdghpaqsfgpjghe

You can view it on a map and download direct to your Garmin there.
