Bike Hike struggling... Anybody offer a recommend for supper in Barmouth? Presumably there are no hot food outlets north of there?

Plenty of chippy's in Barmouth, can't say I've ever ventured into any of the pubs.
May the bridges you burn light your way

The Rhiw Goch Inn, Bronaber is at 96km - just off the route. They serve food until 9pm.ZeroDarkBivi wrote:Presumably there are no hot food outlets north of there?
Trawsfynynn is the next village at 100km. They should have a shop / pub although I haven't confirmed what Google says!

Re: 1 week to go...
Stu,
Is Barmouth where me, you and Kevin had breakfast during that little 3 day ride?
Also, is any of the route from that ride (assuming you can remember the route we took)?
Just trying to piece together any of the route I might have ridden before.

Pubs in Trawsfynydd haven't got a great reputation for serving food - last time I enquired, they sent me up the road to the Rhiw Goch.

It is.Is Barmouth where me, you and Kevin had breakfast during that little 3 day ride?
You've pretty much ridden the section from Machynlleth to Barmouth. B'stard climb out of Mach', then descend through the forest to Pennal. Cross the mountains via the track where you knackered your leg before a long steady climb over the Bwlch and down into Barmouth - simpleAlso, is any of the route from that ride (assuming you can remember the route we took)?

Re: 1 week to go...
Sweet - at least I'll enjoy the first bit then as that trail was lovely along the top.
After that I'm sure it'll descend into a suffer-fest of the highest order.

I can't see the route at work, so just reading this is enlightening. Sounds like some type2 fun involved!

Go to 'course creator'ok so how do you get the gpx to show in bikehike?
Click 'load route'
Select gpx file ... assuming you've already saved it somewhere
Little window will open. If it asks what format you want to open it in select -gpx track
Route will open overlayed on big map
Click 'toggle maps' for a bigger OS view
Job done.
Don't worry, the last 19k is easy.Stu you said it was only 200km !!!!!

Wish the weather would make up its mind. After planning session with fitzy I culled a load of gear to go lighter and now I think Saturday morning looks more than a bit damp!!

Thanks Matt!Fantasticmrmatt wrote:Hmmmm, it's quite a different track after rain, good luck
As time progresses and I read more about peoples reactions and plans since receiving the route I get more and more worried that my sub-30 hour plan may have been a sniff optimistic.
That makes the whole damn thing a different beast!
Re: 1 week to go...
yep, I'm planning on taking enough food for a +30hr trip
might be lots of extra weight but I think I'll be glad of it.

Re: 1 week to go...
Barney. Instead of taking all your food from the start you may want to think about starting with less and then stocking up in Barmouth?barney wrote:yep, I'm planning on taking enough food for a +30hr trip

Its ~ 65k in so you'd hope to arrive about 4-5ish. There will be plenty of shops open.
Saves you carrying everything from the start, weighing you down and using too much energy up early in the route?

Re: 1 week to go...
Not contributed much so far but a quick question. If we leave the route to stock up on food-water-have a good cry etc do we have to rejoin exactly where we left it or are things flexible providing the distance is correct. Just thinking of the Premier shop mentioned on the other thread which only seems to be accessable by going into Trawsfynydd but the route can be rejoined by cutting back to the main road.
