GPS - TalkyToaster 1:50k - no longer available

Post by DanLear »

Having just picked up a 2nd hand Dakota 20 I was going to download the TalkyToaster 1:50 maps, but apparently due to people selling them they're no longer available...anyone know of an alternative? Or am I better to spend the money on the OS ones from ioffer?

I'm a happy ioffer map user but I did download some osm maps from stw but can't find the link now.

Quick google brings this up: http://openmtbmap.org/

I had a look at Alan Goldsmith's talky toaster maps last weekend. Was quite impressed for a free map. Apparently much smaller data packet than the full OS 1:50k, and when stored on the device memory rather than an microSD card, gave a near instant screen refresh. There's sometimes a distinct lag on the iOffer (and I presume Garmin) cards.

Is anyone able to put the Talky Toaster maps on Dropbox or something?
Or, I'm happy to have it on my public dropbox space if someone can provide it

Hi, I've just had a look on talkytoaster.info and all the links are there for downloading maps.

I started a download just to check it did exist and it all seems fine. :-bd

Hmm...I read this:
--
UPDATE: I've been informed that my copyrighted maps are being sold on eBay again! Therefore I am no longer offering my TT 1:50K Look n Feel* maps as free downloads. Apologies to all the honest people out there. As usual a few are ruining it for everyone! I am now offering a subscription service, alternatively I still offer them for sale via my order page as electronic downloads or or MicroSD cards.

from the TT site, and assumed they weren't...aren't the downloads all just for the British isles maps and not the "TT 1:50k Look n Feel" ?

The maps I'm putting onto drop box are OS lookylikey and 702mb all in. Garmin OS maps weigh in at 2.47gb.

Unzip the file.

Plug your Dakota into your computer.

Navigate to Garmin>Garmin and drop the gmapbmap.img file in there

Can I remove the existing Garmin basemaps to make room for theTT maps?

I have:
gmapbmap.img
GMAPSUPP.img
gmaptz.img

Are these redundant once I've got the TT maps on there?
Sorry...GPS numptie
