LLandudno Kip Options

Post by Dave Barter »

Anyone know the Llandudno area well and can recommend a decent place no more than a hour out of town south'ish for a bivy?

I've never ridden there before and wondered whether it would be feasible to do a night on the beach next to Conwy Sands

I think slarge bivied right up at great orms head before. Its quite open but I reckon you could find a spot up there, you are 5mins ride for Llandudno then and a perfect spot to start the WC2C from.

I did bivvy next to the cafe on st ormes head, but that was north of Llandudno. I don't know the area well, but Conwy mountain to the west has a lot of open space and good views, and flattish grassy spots. Not sure how much fresh water there is up there though.

Plenty of fields surrounding Llandudno, it wouldn't take long to find a green spot to sleep....

Conwy morfa would be fine on the beach there at the back of the golf course deganwy also would be fine no roads close by and roads are separated by the railway and a golf course great orme area can still be busy late with local youths and the top carpark on the summit is used by doggers. I'd do Conwy morfa as beach faces west so you can watch the sun set over the Irish Sea puffin island and Anglesey

Also as said above Conwy mountain would be fine too lots of areas that aren't frequented by many people and ace riding too.

Conwy Mountain and Tal y Fan (to the south) are both good - you can follow double track up onto Tal y Fan where the old mines are on the NE side - nice views in the morning (if you scrable up a bit further too - as below).

The north end of the Orme would OK if you arrived late (lots of spots tucked away below little, stepped areas of limestone crags. Cycle up the Marine Drive (closed due to rockfall at present - open next week) past the café (Rest and be Thankful) and turn left after about 150m up to a small car park - investigate round there.

I'd be wary of the west shore and Deganwy and Conwy Morfa at this time of year - to many kids out camping and drinking won't make for a restful night.

Feel free to leave a car at mine (if you want somewhere secure for a few days); PM me for an address (very local).

Thanks all, ended up in Conwy mountain area, rode up there in the dark and had a fantastic bivi overlooking the sea with only wold horses for company. The beach areas were far too busy and it mean that the next day started mostly downhill. Sadly there is another very dodgy video to follow soon.
