100 years ago Edward 'Ryko' Reichenback cycled 3000k across the outback over 4 weeks ... That'd be pretty good going by todays standards, he must have been pretty tough. He was 21 at the time ... anyway here is is.

I think it's a stove. Primus made one that clamped to the top tube.

Did wonder if it was an acetylene pump/reservoir... image search revealed many similar bike lights but none with that 'remote' from the lamp. Still, in the vein of Ben & Ian's posts above, could be the 'next big thing' ; LED lighting? Pah, I've got 1000,000 lumen acetylene!

I wonder whether he's actually got a couple of items bolted on the TT? The bike on the left in the bottom pic clearly has a pipe running from the lamp to something behind the bars.
