Anyone running P35 rims?

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

Considering a pair of Velocity P35 rims (or whatever they're called now) ... anyone use them? Good, bad? Any pics with 2.4 tyres fitted?

I had thought about Duallys but I really don't think I need the extra width, can't imagine I'd want to run a Knard, in fact I'm thinking 2.2 Race Kings might plump up nicely

Yep. Have a pair with 2.4 chunky monkeys on my Yelli Screamy.

Tyres come up massive, but the front still fits in a Rockshox Revelation fork (although I doubt that's important to you).

Rims are just under 600g each.

I'll take a picture later.

I don't use the rims but if you are looking for a big tyre and I would +1 for the chunky monkey. Use one on the front of my Five and I really like it. I went with the softer compound version and have always had loads of grip. Also they are £20... bargain!

Ta but I think it'll be 2.4 X Kings if the Race Kings don't work out.

There was a guy running those last weekend on his 27.650b Trek bouncy thing. They looked *massive*

Stu, I run a p35 on front of Fargo. Strangely got it after you started a thread sometime last year about benefit of wide rims.

Have Run it with a 2.4 x king and 2.4 Ardent. Preferred the ardent, it comes up massive. I run it tubeless at 15 psi and gives loads of grip and adds a bit of cush. The one thing I didn't expect was just how stiff it would be, added a lot more control and confidence to front end of Fargo. Made me realise that a good set of hoops can transform a bike. Can't recommend em highly enough.

See if these are any use (bad mobile phone photos at dusk, sorry)

I've done some comparison photos of the 2.4 Ardent I currently have on a Crest (21mm internal width, compared with 30mm for the P35).

I'm running the Blunts as they are now called on the monkey. The tyres come up pretty much the same size as they do on the dominators which are 42mm. Volume feels similar too. They are a good bit lighter as well, though obviously not going to be as bombproof.

Don't know if the photos will tell you much but I'll post them anyway.
