Trains look a doddle and frequent. Takes about 2.5 hours with a change at Clapham Junction. Often engineering works on Sundays though.
You planning on parking at Winchester and then getting the train back from Eastbourne?
No restrictions or bike reservations needed off peak on Southern trains.

I've only ridden from Hassocks to Eastbourne so not sure of parking in Winchester. I'd imagine there would be parking outside the centre.

As for trains don't go on fathers day as the trains don't allow bikes on around Brighton due to BHF London to Brighton.

Weird, I did the richmond to Windsor ride and they were letting as many as possible on to get everyone home afterwards. Still wouldn't fancy joining the bike queue for a train after a long ride to be fair

I've unwittingly signed up to do the BHF london to brighton with work  WHoops. Sounds like lots of queues and clueless people cycling, crashing and walking all the way across Ditchling Beacon

I was just doing it to be social too, sounds like it'll be like playing frogger between cyclists or something :geek:

But yes, I'd avoid BHF London ti Brighton day if I were you

Train restrictions are only on the day of L2B because of the sheer numbers that do the ride.
I live almost on the route and it's hellish, full of wobbling people on old bikes with soft tyres walking up hills.

Im looking at doing a. Single next Fri. If you want route conditions etc PM me. My riding pal who is from the south reports trains are cool about bikes off peak.

Depending on timing you could do the train journey before the ride. (park at end) so that you are clean and don't have to worry about last trains.

Clearly doing the double is the best tactic as you save a train fair (half Scot half Yorkshire).

Tip for gpx. Gpsies allows you to overlay two gpx which allows you to include the water tap location file from the above site.

FLV, the route is a combination of muddy trails, chalk tracks, rocky lanes, grassy fields, a small bit of road and a lot of hills. The views can be spectacular. The route is and shared with walkers and horses and there are many gates. Cows, sheep, pigs and the odd stray pheasant live out there. It's 100 miles unless you get a wee bit lost and then it's a little bit more. There is one free to use campsite about half way along - with no water or toilets but there is a shelter and a fire site (near Amberley).

How does that sound?
