When and why did they get unpopular? In the 90's it seemed like every bike ran a set, now it's just XC race bikes it seems.
I'm just fitting a pair to my bike as they make sense to me on long or hilly rides, also help you get stretched out a little more when you want to power along in the big ring.

Re: Bar Ends
DNF, I've got bar ends on my 26" Inbred ... sometimes people take the piss but it works. Varied hand positions on long rides shouldn't be overlooked

I like them too, used to use thrm back in the day, fitted them on my Swift and as Stu said I like moving my hands about on long trips. I would like some bars like the Jones H-bar but dont like thr price

Try and get a look at the Jones alloy loop bars Pete ... I think Biff of The Outcast was bringing them in. Still not what could be described as cheap but nothing Jones ever is.

Re: Bar Ends
You might struggle to get shifters and brake levers on the Titec bars as the rearward extensions are quite short. The Jones loop bars have much longer extensions.
Maybe just man up and go SS
