Llanaber/Barmouth - riding?

Heading to a campsite (Trawsdir) near Barmouth next week with the family. Undecided which bike to take between my cross bike or my 29er. I'm edging towards the cross bike to tour some of the roads and find some forest tracks.
What's the riding like? Not gonna be able to go out on full day epics, just the odd 1-2 hours here and there.
Any good routes/places I should check out?

Plenty of stuff around there Dan. I'd go for the crosser and explore the lanes / tracks ... cross the toll bridge from Barmouth and head into the hills above the estuary.
