Alps, Dolomites and Pyrenees this summer

Post by Benward1009 »

Hi all, I'm planning on heading to Europe at the end of May/start of June for about 10 weeks of riding. Not sure if it's quite the type of riding that most people on bearbones are into, as I'm planning on doing mainly or maybe entirely road riding, but if anyone else is interested or has similar plans it would be good to meet up with a few people for some of the trip.

Plans are a bit vague at the moment as I only found out a couple of weeks ago that I'll have 3 months between jobs, but rough plan is to start in the dolomites then gradually head through the alps, eventually reaching south western french alps/provence area before heading across to the pyrenees in early July. Will be riding a cross bike with road tyres, but sure it will be able to handle gravel tracks etc so may head off the roads at some point, and will be camping as much as possible to save money (mix of wild camping and campsites depending on the area). Going to keep it as light as possible, but have admitted defeat and accepted that I'll need panniers given how long I'll be away for.

Bit about myself: 30 years old, live in Newcastle area, got a new job starting in September so have decided to take the summer off before get tied down again. Been doing a lot of riding this year so in fairly decent shape and would be looking to do about 70-80 miles most days depending on terrain (will be in the mountains vast majority of the time), and as many cols as possible! Got plenty of time though so will be taking plenty of coffee stops.

If anyone will be in the alps/dolomites/pyrenees at the same time and fancies meeting up at some point it would be good to hear from you.

Howdy, thought I'd replied to this before but just noticed it that I clearly hadn't.

I'm in Chamonix and would be up for meeting up for an overnighter if you happen to wander this.

Give me a shout:

...and we can chat and see if it'll work.

Later, Gairy.
