Cable compression - anyone tried one of these?

We've done solutions to the problem of a handlebar harness squishing your brake cables before and most involve turning the brake levers down, but I find this just makes using them less comfortable and more difficult. So, has anyone tried something like this: its from SJS Cycles and basically would fit under the stem in place of 27mm of spacers, if you have that room under the stem to spare of course. You'd need to put something on either end to ensure the straps didnt slip off but Im thinking it would give you space for cables behind it, as well as clear up your handle for lights and stuff. Any thoughts or other solutions?

I had an idea* about 'Jones-ifying' regular handlebars, you could use clamps to hold a section of bar out in front of the cables... with the clamps just inboard of the brake levers. Like an extra sturdy spacer bar.

*better than heating up C02 cartridges on a stove anyway

What about the old bar ends in the middle of the bar to push the roll away from the cable spaghetti?

Both good ideas. Ive tried the bar ends in the middle of the bar trick but could never get it to work with my Wildcat harness - the straps weren't long enough. Might give it another go though as I think I just figured out what I was doing wrong .... And Ive looked for clamps that were both the right size and strong enough to put up with my overloaded dry bag. Wish I could work metal ...

Anyways, Ive ordered one of the SJS thingies and will report back on results. If nothing else it will make a nice place to stick a handlebar bag when road touring.

I experimented with a section of old seatpost and some plastic clamps that came with a D-lock or something. It worked fine but it was ugly, weighty and not that easy to remove when not in use. I decided not to bother and so far hose squeezage hasn't caused a problem.
