I stay in the valley that would be just behind you (Pennant Valley).

There for the week before Easter so will traipse over there with laddo and camp out.

Got this one in early (so time for another one this month too).

Not done the blog entry yet but I took a spin down the Dava Way to the coast, along some of the Moray Coastal Path (getting increasingly dark as I did so) and ended up on the outskirts of Fochabers at the Ordiequish Trails - 130km.

Back along the Speyside Way today (with a diversion onto the roads to avoid the worst of the gates) - 83km. Bloody headwind all the way back though!!

March 3/3.
I started in Carno and rode out to Nant Syddion for the night. It was my first stay in a bothy and I enjoyed it a lot. Next day did loop round through Nant yr arian where I met with flatfishy for a little blast at the trail centre then rode back to the car. It was my best bikepacking trip yet. Except.

There was a middle aged guy admiring the view with me, he pointed and asked if I could see the Rainbow? I said “No”, as there wasn’t one to see. He looked at me like I had pissed on his chips, turned and walked back to his car.

Third one done, a quiet night on the Plateau de Vaucluse. But it's going to get harder now. France is relatively easy, just have to avoid Wednesdays and weekends to avoid getting shot, around this area anyway. Similar problem in Northamptonshire but with less hills.

Made it 2 for 3 this week - quick night out off the Ridgeway near Wendover. It's not exactly the Highlands. Off to the Peaks next week to ramp up the monthly average. Fingers crossed my new Borah Gar bivvy bag arrives in time but I strongly suspect I'll still be wrestling with my Hunka.

Just about scrapped in 3 out of 3 (if it counts)

I parked the car in Capel Curig and then rode up to my friends bunkhouse a few miles away. Not the longest ride but the scenery was stunning. In the morning I rode back down to Capel Curig were I arranged to meet my mate and we had a lovely breakfast in the Pinnacle café.

We then rode down to the Marin trail as neither of us had ridden it in years before heading back to the café for coffee and cake.

Staying in a bunkhouse, eating in a café and riding a way-marked trail might be like blasphemy to some of you but for me it was a great couple of days…

c’mon then, does it count? not sure I’ll have the brownie points for a trip tonight !

in my defense I didn't switch on the water or gas as I used my own gear, technically it was as good as a bothy... no toilet and candles for light.

Wednesday night 26th - finally made it - local, over Darwen Moor, more a test of equipment than anything else...

Klymit Inertia half length airmat - let me down because it kept going down... I'll be phoning Ultralight Outdoor Gear tomorrow...

And I had bought a lightweight sleeping bag: Rab Neutrino, last year's model, weighing 600g... it wasn't up to it I'm afraid - I wasn't warm enough. Having to keep pumping the Klymit up didn't help, granted, but when you can see gaps in the filling of the bag, how can it keep you warm !

Have only used it a half dozen times, and it cost 200 quid... I'll be phoning Ultralight Outdoor Gear on this one as well...

I guess it was a bit cold though, the Garmin recorded -0.8C, but the Garmin is often recording colder than it is by about 2 degrees

Was trying to post a picture via Flickr but they've changed something...

Anybody advise how to do it ?

New bike for commuting duties and generally riding like a hooligan until i pass my bike bike test. As is customary, a trip to the seaside is called for.

Took the bivi stuff and had a cheeky night out on the way back. It took a bit of work to find a suitable bivi spot, but another night ticked off.

It certainly takes a bit of cunning to stealth camp somewhere when you cant get far off road.

Whens the full test?

I slept for a couple of hours on the peak ITT so I'm counting that for march. No photo's of the night out but there one of the bike somewere to find and post.

Realised I didnt post Feb, but it happened, more than once I think.

Got April sorted early with a couple of nights out along the Grand Union Canal and a gentle ride down the Cotswalds. Ive wanted to ride the length of it for years (just because its there) so took the chance this week while my family were off on a school trip. I cant say it's a brilliant route - its actually painfully bumpy - but there's more than enough to keep your mind occupied, heaps of places to eat etc, and no shortage of camp grounds and bivvy sites along the way. It's obviously very flat so I took my touring bike and loaded the panniers with tent+tarp, a pile of clothes for pub eating, even a chair. Not so much bikepacking as bikeglamping.

Audax / roadie style adventure this end to put in the miles ahead of big rides in May and June.

235miles in total.

Ended up on Donna Nook sand dunes which were lovely but it was very cold and only took a summer bag to reduce bulk on the bike.

Not the best nights sleep but with sand pegs now on the shopping list, any future dune camping wont result in the gogo collapsing quite so much!
