JRA, although to be honest I've no idea when. I took the rear wheel off to look at why the brake was squeaking and the cassette dropped to the floor leaving that sticking out. My suspicion is that it was weakened by a sticky bearing which was replaced a little while back. You can see where the bearings have marked it. I spoke to Hunt on the off chance they'd replace it as a warranty job, but they just said that this is where they fail if they're going to.

Last year I fitted some Clarks cable brakes to my El Mariachi just to keep it going, but they were rather poor. Fine for using with mini-voodoo at slow speeds but that’s about it. They were cheap though

Anyways, thinking about it this year I decided to fit some proper cables to the Clarks brakes, and my word! Jagwire come up trumps and whilst it’s a bit OTT to say it, they’ve transformed the brakes

There's always something else … went to give my brakes a bit of TLC, removed the rear wheel, and the cassette immediately fell off, taking half the axle with it.

Been gathering (mostly silver) bits for the speedball, and it's nearly ready to build up properly with brakes and transmission. Still undecided which fork I prefer! Anyway, the rolling chassis is looking like this, and the VO Seine bars seem good, and similar hand position to the Motos I have.

Lots of decent fettling here. Like inner cables and over used derailleur etc. Once on the A62 from Leeds whilst still in tuning mode for the cheap inner cable (can you believe Decathlon mechanic told me they're all the same when I asked him if they had a Shimano cable!!) I ended up in one of them 'bike is broken' situation.

But a roadside repair by self and back home, felt good. Too much commuting via bike so not had chance to update the thread. In build mode for the little ones bike too for which sadly the SIDS have too short a steerer. Need top cup of the internal headset, but thankfully found a bottom one.

Cheap headsets again, of which I knocked out the glued in Giant one on the ATX. Pics coming...

I took the other Jones out, the singlespeed one. Front brake is binding, it's an avid elixir.
The pistons do seem to be fully retracted.
I've left the caliper in a bag of penetrating fluid and will do a fully brake cleaner clean & full, flush & bleed tomorrow.
If it was the TRP's I'd just wind the pistons out a tad, hydraulic, there doesn't seem much pushing the pistons back other than the pads spring. Never really though about it before I guess.
Are different makes of pads different overall thicknesses?

If It doesn't improve I'll replace it, but what with?

Slightly biased, but I still think the Speedball is the best looking Stooge ever built, closely followed by the Speedbomb. They ride lovely too!!

Well, they do say a clean bike/brake/parts, is a working bike. Now when I wash the gunge out of the bike (ie when swapping out pads), I ensure to do the caliper pistons with a careful brush and clean. So when retracting the pistons it's all nice and clean around them.

Avids/SRAM hey. They sure do know how to make them things called brakes Shimano for cranks, Avid for brakes. Simplest!

Happy for you BTW. Clarke brakes, yucky!

Swapped out tyres for Cinturato M to be ready for upcoming trip. Set up tubeless, went straight on and have stayed up. Easiest it's ever been.

Faffing with my 29er+ using Aeroe spider rack with 3 brackets and a Wildcat front harness to find the perfect packrafting and bike packing set up.
I ordered 2 more straps and another dry bag from ALPKIT, when they arrive I think I have the perfect set up.
I'll be doing a test ride and paddle before JennRide

Just got a bottom bracket from Halford for the little ones bike. When he gets back from school I will try and instruct him as to how to wind it in and then the cranks on. Only problem is that the cranks are 170mm.

I guess he'll live as they are XY or equivalents.

Off with the old, on with the new. Final-ish bike prep for HT550, so new rear tyre (front's ok), new chain and cassette, and new brake pads, giving enough time to 'run everything in' before heading out proper.
