Handlebar accessory bar thingamajigs

Post by Hyppy »

Does anyone use one of those accessory bar things to lift lights up above any handlebar luggage and/or to give more mounting space? And if so do you use a generic AMZ/Fleabay one or a branded one, like Minoura or Topeak for eg. Any particular thoughts or recommendations? I'm wanting to lift an Exposure MaXx-D light up above either an Ortlieb QR handlebar bag or, less crucially as it sits a bit lower, a Salsa Cradle.

I used a cheap eBay one to actually lift up a bar bag recently and it worked OK, plus to mount a light.

I have a KNCN mount, lightweight and it’s anodised :-bd

Downside and I think most of these are similar, it’s oversized one side and standard on the other side, so means bulking out the light bracket for it to fit properly

If someone did an oversized option on both sides ends, I’d swap it out

I have an Oxford with a single clamp, hasn't budged in 4 years attached. I might go for one with a double clamp for the weight of a Maxx, and to get the light centred over the stem.

Use two? One mounted to the bars and a second one reverse mounted to that, with a section of oversized handle bar to take your light?

Yeah, I've noticed this re. the diameters. I've mounts that I think I can use that ought to pack out ok, but it'd be good to find components that fit without.

That's a good call. It's a fair old weight to be cantilevered.

Haha. Some of the pictures of these things in use are proper Heath Robinson.
