I've got some new forks for my Pinnacle Ramin, and I want to replace the headset when I fit the forks. It's the first time I've tried to buy a new headset in over 30 years, and I was expecting it to be a straightforward process. It turns out it's not. I took it to my LBS to see if they had one in stock, but they said that they'd have to take it apart to find out which one I need. There are no external markings, but I just wanted to buy a headset and fit it myself rather than have the work done at the bike shop.
Does anyone know what size headset I should buy?
Cheers, Michael.

Thanks Keith. I saw that too but it still didn't seem very certain. I've relented and finally taken the bike to the LBC.

Tapered or straight fork steerer? Either way it's a common headset type. The head tube is 44mm ID so it takes a ZS44 28.6 upper, with either a ZC44 30 lower for a straight steerer or EC44 40 for a tapered steerer. Hope, FSA etc all jhave them. Hopefully the shop have one.

If only all bike standards and general parts queries came back with such clear, precise information!!
Re: Which Headset for a Pinnacle Ramin?
Sorry, typo there - the lower for straight steerer would be a ZS, not 'ZC'. Zero Stack aka semi-integrated (you spoke too soon Benjameso wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 8:08 am Tapered or straight fork steerer? Either way it's a common headset type.
