Not being facetious: Does anyone actually use their GPS of choice’s own online service? Garmin once upon a time and Wahoo for the past however long, I’ve only ever used them as the conduit to Strava or Training Peaks.

I do, Strava has gradually removed core functionality and plasters my feed with ads, challenges and info about people I don't know.

Garmin on the other hand gives me all the ride data without (for now!) anyy upsell. Hopefully the blurb above is correct that paying for the service gains features, rather than removes them from the free service.

Hopefully I've enough SH Dakotas to see me out!
Although looking at it, you can pay zero and still get to use the basic GPS functions without all the training or social stuff.

One of the many reasons I've never been tempted to pay for Strava is that on the odd occasion I was interested, Garmin gave me the info for free.
AI* is expensive in terms of computer hardware so I do get companies having to charge money for it but wrapping raw statistics and graphs behind the paywall to get you to pay for it is just meh when you have no real need for the actual AI bits. Of course the paying customers are also the people who are constantly giving feedback which can be used to improve the model which can then be sold on for other projects.

* Not really AI but sufficiently advanced in the narrow field of their model that the only person who could tell would be an actual expert in that field. Expert systems have come a long way since the 90s.

Strava costs I can understand as their platform is software/hosting costs same as office 365
Gamin you pay a lot of money for the physical device, some of the new garmin watches are £900+ and have a shelf life due to software updates and battery life.
