Strava and AI policing

Post by Sajama »

On veloviewer, load up rides when I have a bunch of rides where I have not been on Strava.to increase my tile count.
Have rides flagged, can't AI tell the difference between a n electric bike, car or freewheeling down a mountain road. .
Bet a lot of Kom' s might be at risk if you do a segment with a howling tailwind. With AI it might make Kom's fairer if they added the weather forecast into the algorithm.

Not sure if they use AI, they've always had some sort of basic algorithm that flags rides plus another user might have flagged your ride or a segment on it - I've flagged segments where it's pretty obvious that something has messed up, usually short ones where the KOM time uphill is quicker than the KOM downhill

I had one ride that was flagged, I questioned it and the response was: "look at your speed between miles X & Y" - something had gone wrong with the GPS and I had done a consistent, and exact, 20mph uphill, down dale, on the flat for about 4 miles.

Hi everyone! We recently launched an upgraded auto-flagging system designed to catch over a third more “impossible” segment times before they even show up on leaderboards (eg. The “run” that looks suspiciously like a bike ride or the “ride” that was clearly recorded from an e-bike or a car). We’ve also retroactively applied the new system to 34 million existing run and ride leaderboards, removing 6.5M impossible activities that didn’t belong in the top 10.

Ensuring fairness and integrity on the leaderboards is a work in progress, and we’ll continue finding and cleaning up suspicious results from the past as our process improves. But these updates are a big step. They won’t just make leaderboards more accurate – they’ll make sure your own hard-earned efforts are properly recognized and ranked.
