12 speed cassette/hub compatibility
Just curious really. As my 11 speed xtr rear hub has broken its carbon plate. So maybe it’s time to test the 12 speed departments!!
I have a DTswiss 350 rear hub with an 11 speed standard (I think, but I’ll check if it is actually a microspline - though I’m certain it’s just standard) cassette. Seems most of the 12 speed stuff is gonna have to be microspline and there is a few options on R2Bike website of SRAM wireless or XTR 12 speed grouppos for decent prices.
If I don’t have a microspline on my 350, does anyone know if a microspline will just fit straight on or can you actually get 12 speed standard fit cassettes that are Shimano branded (I like the machining of Shimano, though apparently the newer gen SRAM aren’t bad!).
Thoughts appreciated!!

Re: 12 speed cassette/hub compatibility
I have dt 350 and 12 speed fits fine...you do need a spacer for mtb cassette but that is all
I use a garbaruk 12 speed with sram AXS
Also have a sram 12 speed non xd standard fit.
Fwiw from 9 speed owards all cassettes fit as used them all on a hope pro 2 hub
I have an xd freehub to fit ( dt 350) if any use to you ( free to you )

Lovely stuff. Then I’ll get ordering a new shiny 12 speed drivetrain thanks Jon.
Re: 12 speed cassette/hub compatibility
Shaff, if you're sticking with Shimano, I reckon you'd be better off switching out the HG freehub for a microspline one instead of going with the undeniably bling Garburuk one just to have something that fits. I think a new freehub plus even an XTR cassette would be cheaper than the Garburuk cassette.

Yeah, I’m not in Gabaruk league yet Hyppy. lol, my limit is generally used or super reduced xtr. Yeah, I might have a microspline sat in waiting. But if not I’ll get off John.Hyppy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 3:17 pm Shaff, if you're sticking with Shimano, I reckon you'd be better off switching out the HG freehub for a microspline one instead of going with the undeniably bling Garburuk one just to have something that fits. This drivetrain I have can go on little ones new bike (got the wheels, levers and now drivetrain… just need a decent but tiny frame that takes 27.5… oh and I have the SIDs to go on his

My point was to say it took different brands
Fwiw mine is at 5500 mtb miles on my mainly winter bike and shows minimal wear.
Not sure I would pay £300 for one but its all steel and silly light and wears well.

5500 miles, minimal wear, all steel and silly light. Now you have my undivided attention. Hmmm, I will look at this option when comparing cassette weights too thanks both.

Re: 12 speed cassette/hub compatibility
So would this rear mech work https://r2-bike.com/SRAM-GX-Eagle-AXS-U ... ntroller_1
With this Gabaruk cassette or do I have to buy an eagle if wanting to go above 50 teeth (that’s what it seems to say in the blurb for the SRAM upgrade kit under the rear electronic mech)

Re: 12 speed cassette/hub compatibility
That is eagle and says good up to 52
All eagle are up to 52 iirc and you can pair mtb and road as i have an eagle on my road bike for a 1 x 12 speed ( but only have a 50 casette but 52 would also be fine)
My axs is on the road bike IMHO its not a game changer ( and its only 18 hours battery life) for me but plenty disagree. I rode my gravel bike today with normal shifters and it was fine.
No idea re that casette it seems to say both 12 and 11 speed
Travers do them in uk ( or did) but pricey
I got a new 11 speed one off ebay for £120

Re: 12 speed cassette/hub compatibility
Thanks for this info John. Might just go for some bling XTR mech/shifter then and a nice gabaruk cassette for the weight saving. Definitely want to spend less and my thumb been hurting recently from the old xt shifter.Lazarus wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 8:44 pm That is eagle and says good up to 52
