Mad Cow POSTPONED!
Following more unexpected snowfall, we’ve taken the decision to postpone this weekend’s event. it seems the most sensible course of action given the distances some people will be travelling.
Currently Feb 1st / 2nd is penciled in as the new date.
Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Cheers,
Stuart

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
It's put another inch down this morning that wasn't forecast Si and it's obviously sat on top of already frozen ground, with no sign that things are going to change much until next week.Probably best I suppose.

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
Sorry to hear but sounds like it is for the best. I remember remarking a year ago that I was yet to miss a WE through illness or weather stopping me getting there. Sorry for you and Dee for all the work you will have put in. Hope the cake will not have gone off!
I have entered a 200km audax on 1st February but maybe Mach might be more fun than riding to Scunthorpe. Who knows.

Don't worry Kevin - cake in freezer, although it's likely colder outside

Well hopefully I'll have a van again by then! Longer daylight sounds like a big bonus.

No, one set's more than enough for anyone to ignore, no point confusing the already confusing issue furtherWill there be new GRs for us to ignore?

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
Disappointed but I'm sure it's the right call. However, I have accomodation and trains booked, plus I've committed to visit my daughter near Barmouth on Monday, so I'm still planning to have a ride out. Now thinking I'll head for Nant Y Siddion for Saturday night, if anyone else is thinking similar.

Curiously it's bright sunshine over here and bone dry... was quite looking forward to doing battle with the conditions but fair call to postpone... glad to hear the cake situ hasn't caused too much grief...

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
Bright and sunny here but there's no way I'd consider riding a bike on anything but the main roads as there's patchy ice/black ice everywhere. It's that randomness/inconsistency that's the problem.

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
Right decision if a whole load of snow has come down. I've never managed a snowy winter event, not even a properly icy one. It's either been wet, windy, or both. Sometimes with the odd icy patch
Saves a treacherous drive up there!
Thanks for posting up here too - I didn't get the email, think there must be a problem with any BB emails for meas I don't seem to get any

“Phew, thank goodness”, and I’m afraid I have to agree. It could have been dangerous out there, but I doubt if I’d have not turned up.
Who knows, deferring it could have saved somebody’s life.
But, on the other hand, historically, the coldest month is February, so…

One of Europe's biggest events was cancelled yesterday due to heavy rain in north east Cataluña, 700 odd disappointed riders. I think the pic above about sums it up.

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
I think the reason people were angry, is because they were 11 miles into a 200 mile event that many had spent a lot of money travelling to from around the US and the world, and they were sent through a section that wrecked bikes before they were even warmed up. It wasn't a bikepacking "take whatever comes at you" type event, it was a mass-start gravel event, on glorified road bikes..Alpinum wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 8:31 am Life cycles...

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
So I reckon the A470 closure near Talerddig has commenced this time?

Re: Mad Cow POSTPONED!
I'm vaguely tempted to ride along it from Caersws to see what it's like without any traffic, instead of the back way. Hmm. Maybe not.
