I’ve just built up a small Surly Krampus. If I fit a small frame bag to carry a tube / pump / tool I can’t fit a bottle holder.
There are no more bottle bolt holes and even the Velcro attached bottle cage I have won’t fit anywhere. Any thoughts on a way of carrying a bottle without putting it somewhere it’s going to get plastered in mud.
On my small Wednesday I use a frame bag and put the bottle in there but on the Krampus the frame is even smaller..
I've got a pair of the Alpkit bottle bags that go on the bars. I was a bit dubious at first but they work really well and are easy to access on the go.
I use either stem bags, water bladder in a frame bag, or an extra water bottle in my hip pack, which has a pocket for it.
5'2" with a 46cm frame for reference .

Same, and I'm 6'1". Bladder is my preference, but stem bags are better than frame-mounted cages for keeping your bottles clean.
My mountain bike frame is a medium but gravel bike is a small. I bought a med Blackburn Outpost Elite full framebag that fits the small gravel perfectly but squeezes slightly (but ok) into the mountain bike. Designed to take a bladder but I stuck my second water bottle into it and it still had space for tools, filter and various other bits and pieces. Worked fine for the 3 days. They also do a small version.
