Nah, just learn to love them. They look OK. You'll get used to it, just make sure the rest of your wardrobe matches from now-on.gecko76 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:08 pm ...and delivered a set of forks from Alpkit's ebay store in a colour that might be considered challenging.
Options:
a) leave them as they are and learn to love them.
b) sand them back to raw carbon, or use some other method.
c) paint them (black)
They're to go on a new bamboo frame, the kit for which should also be arriving this week.
Re: The post man's been ...
Should have posted the link. Not sure how many sets are left but there's a nice blue if you don't fancy sage, for the same crazy price.

That Goodyear Newton in 29 x 2.5 sounds a good buy. Anyone know the weights of them (and are they any good!?). Thanks Gecko.gecko76 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 3:27 pm Should have posted the link. d) get them wrapped to look like bamboo is the obvious answer?gecko76 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 1:08 pm ...and delivered a set of forks from Alpkit's ebay store in a colour that might be considered challenging.

If you do decide to paint them just key them with scotch brite to get a key. I'd also not recommend trying to get them back to raw carbon.

Slight delay but the new bike came for a spin this morning. 60 miles/8000 ft around the leafy lanes of Lancashire. Enjoyable

Borah bivy with side zip arrived today. Took a couple of months to appear due to their backlog but that was fine. It’s pleasingly spacious and packs down tiny. Looking forward to using it.

John, this looks really nice indeed. Particularly like the detail of the back light and minimal other 'sundries'. I went out on mine yesterday with only a toptube bag, saddlepack and a bottle. Felt so nice after not having ridden it for well over a month.Johnallan wrote: ↑Sat Oct 12, 2024 4:35 pmSlight delay but the new bike came for a spin this morning. 60 miles/8000 ft around the leafy lanes of Lancashire. Used to live in Preston during my uni years, the riding around the hills there was stunning and mid week, it was so quiet too. Always appreciated going out riding there

Re: The post man's been ...
Yes, indeed I used that very bike (but with Santa's Cruz wheels Ton). The shoes fit me like a glove so will need to put one of mine up in the recycling thread soon. Probably my bulkiest drop so far Ton and the chap who bought my Wahoo ROAM (second delivery) was equally as nice. Fresh new BOLT v2 (but for £235) dropped in the post today so will use that for Sundays Harrogate shift.
If I had been quick enough I'd have bought yours Ton, but history has to play itself out and these deliveries would maybe otherwise not have been made. Thanks again.

If you don't mind a bit of very lightly used gear, then the app Vinted could be the thing for you.
Now money is a little tighter for me since early retirement
some good gear can be found amongst the trash
I picked these (worn once) 5/10's for just £20 (plus a bit of postage and a small insurance fee)

And this for £7.20 (around £10 with postage and fee's)

Be warned Vinted can become very addictive, but I've also sold some workwear, suits and books on there recently too, to recoup some of the money spent in cycling gear

Agreed! I've had some bike related bargains off there too, people either not really knowing how much cycling clothing costs or just wanting rid. Also have a small pile of stuff that didn't quite fit waiting to go back on though

Re: The post man's been ...
… with a load of o-rings. My OneUp Components EDC pump failed last week and they were out of service kits but helpfully list specs of the o-rings they use, so I found them elsewhere. Of course I needed to reach minimum order quantities, so should you have the same pump and need a set, hit me up!

Case in point, picked up a really nice brand new 7mesh merino lined jersey yesterday which cost me £45 all in. They're £120 in the shops.thenorthwind wrote: ↑Fri Nov 01, 2024 8:14 amAgreed! I did manage to sell a couple of things that didn't fit to put towards it too.

Second or third vinted, much easier than easy. Quite good for outdoor brands, got a few mountain equipment bargains on there recently that with a bit of nikwax, have made the garments looks and perform like new
Anyways, little piece of art came today of a pair of wooden skis sticking out in the snow. Got it to go next to my pair of wooden skis hanging up in the living room

Re: The post man's been ...
Can't remember last time I bought anything but have replaced my fallen-to-bits silk liner gloves with some thermal merino ones from a little outfit in Maryport, EDZ. Bunged inside my XL Showa Temres's (doh! those were my last purchase weren't they) they'll keep my pinkies dry n toasty warm on the Winter Bivvy.

Think your parts bin is a bit too good!

Cycliq Fly6 Pro rear camera and light.
Have had enough of feeling vulnerable and at the mercy of motorists not giving a monkeys about my safety.
4k footage is very clear.
Slightly aggrieved to be compelled to spend money just to feel safer riding my bike on the roads...
I will be interested to see if it helps to ease my mind.

Re: The post man's been ...
Well, I went and collected it from Durham this morning... New (to me) bike day, I've always loved the skinny steel look and when I saw an XL 29er breezer for sale on Facebook at a ridiculous price I knew I wanted it! Just about to go out for a test ride, as I think it'll become a giant tyred gravel bike with flared drop bars
Re: The post man's been ...
Nice Breezer frame! Just delivered a replacement camelbak crux reservoir after the other one leaked at a seam. It's a military spec one, so has a fancy nozzle, insulate tube, and different colours. I still assume the hose connector will become impossible to use in a few months like all the rest. but it's the best shape for my current bag so I had to go with it...
