Techno techno techno!

Been having a techno revival in the wfh office in recent weeks. When it's good it's so damn good.. also safe to say there's a lot of crap to sift through to get to the proper, minimalist, Detroit style stuff. Like most things - strip it all back to the basics and do those basics well and it all multiplies somehow.

Last week Fu Manchu live. Rather intimate gig. Brilliant. Rarely heard such a clear concert outside of some of the best auditoriums.
Last couple of days saw heavy rotations of Madrugada (Grit & Industrial Silence, don't have quite as much love for their other albums) and Grinderman (Nick Cave at its best?). Kind of "calm" music (compared to loads of the other stuff I listen) but sooo much drive.

Then this...

Now this one I can listen to. Whenever you post something to listen to I can't help but think that when the Four Horses of The Apocalypse decide to rampage across the lands, they'll be drafting you in behind the decks to play to their introductory music.

Actually, perhaps not. They still haven't paid me from when we saw the Neanderthals off.

Yesterday I received an email cordially inviting me to apply for my State Pension (!) so it was rather ironic that on the very same day I was on a fast train to......

..... Chester with my pal Lord Jezzer, to attend a Young Persons Popular Music Concert featuring Connie Rotter, Kitty Vacant, Anna Key (ho ho!), Jilly Idol and Nancy Doll; in other words the fabulous....

Image

Huge fun, superb musicianship, plenty of ribaldry and insults, playing punk/rock covers and their own originals.

Right down at the front to jump up and down (although really to hold onto the barrier to stop me falling over )......

Image

Some fantastic show-womanship and lots of 'up close and very personal'.....

Definitely one for the 'see again asap' list :-bd

Last night there was a Dog & Trumpet reunion night in Coventry :-bd
All the original DJ's in the original venue playing all the Tunes from '85 - '97 so much dancing to Sisters of Mercy, Killing Joke, Ministry, PWEI, Nitzer Ebb, New Model Army etc ....
Shame the beer was only bottled lager , 330ml for £6 which is £10.32 a pint.
I drank water.
Still had a great night.

Amyl and The Sniffers at Camden Roundhouse.

Quite an excitable young lady I must say. Catch her death of cold in that clobber too. Not sure I'd see them again, no definitely wouldn't, but certainly a spectacular experience.

'Supported' by Upchuck. Now I'm not an expert in these matters but in my considered amateur opinion I'd say they were, sadly, "rubbish". Best I can say about the singer is she was a capable shouter, and the band can keep time. Not difficult when you can only play one or two chords. All tracks sounded the same to me. Surely Amyl knew a better bunch than that.

Currently listening to the Wildhearts back catalogue, as I'm off to see Ginger Wildheart play an acoustic gig at the Greystones in Sheffield next week. Hopefully accompanied by another member from here, if he survives a second city divide ride over the weekend!
