29+ mudguard options

I’ve recently taken delivery of a lovely new Krampus and am wanting to get some mudguards fitted given the near permanent rain. I was quite surprised to see that the krampus now has mounts for full guards having previously owned a mk1.

Can I ask those of you still riding on 29+ what you are using front and rear? I like the look of the mud huggers but not sure I’d have enough clearance with knobbly 29 x 3”…

Large rear mudhugger works perfectly on my dirtbomb with 29*3 tyres. On the front, I use a homemade oversized fork crown one combined with an old crud guard to keep the crap off my bottle. Works pretty well so far, but not as pretty as a matched set

Mudhugger works on rear , as noted.

Front ( lauf ) nothing fits well so small rrp enduro guard and crud guard ( not perfect would prefer a better solution but laufs dont really work well with a normal mudguard )

Large mudhugger rear, a cut down mudhugger between BB and seat stays, a Muckynutz front guard (longer than the mudhugger equivalent) and a muckynutz down tube guard. I've a similar set up on my Kramp and it works well. In fact the rear mudhugger follows the tyre closer on the Kramp due to the steep seat stays. Clearance for any 29+ tyre you can get, including duro cruxes!

Mudhugger rear is hard to beat. I also have a Mudhugger on the front of my Stooge Ti, which has a carbon fork, and a Mudhugger copy from Amazon on the front of my Stooge SS. I had to modify it with a knife to get it to fit the steel fork and spread sufficiently to stop spray from the 3.25 Duro Crux I have on there. Works OK but ideally would be longer.

I've recently fit bluemels 75s to my Stooge for MTB commuting. Coverage is ace but I've pinged the clips off the front twice in as many rides by rolling over smallish obstacles. Probably not the best things for any sort of tech riding but it's nice to arrive with clean feet and legs

As per Phil ( and iirc off his suggestion) Mudhugger mk 2 large (Phil did yours not come with the extension for seat stays -> BB section ? ) and Muckynuts Long on the front. My underslung tool bottle ( totally waterproof and stable ) works well to catch crud lower down.

Whilst I'm not keen on the aesthetics or massive size of the rear, it works and that's what it's for.

For a hardtail or rigid frame you can use a medium rear mudhugger, I do and it's still big with full coverage and I trimmed the end a bit. Might reduce the amount of unnecessary 'diving board' at the end.

EDIT: angle of seat stays dictates the size you need..

Yes new mudhuggers have an extension to fill in the gap to the seat tube. Mines an old one

I bought a Mudhugger rear with the extension Tom. Nut didn't end up using it. If you're buying one anyway, then happy to be the seller

I got for £30 so if that seems a decent price, I'll absorb postage.

Dunno. Didn't realise they have another size Tom. It was for 27.5 and 29er wheels and looks big enough to fit a semi fat bike. I'll grab some pics in a bit if you like and hoping you're close enough for me to hand deliver (or leave in a safe place).

FWIW, improbably gonna go for the cooler SKS version but might have a little less coverage.
