Lost / found I-phone? (BB200)

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

I don't suppose anyone happened to find an I-phone on Sat did they? It's thought to be somewhere along the first descent that dropped you down into the forest above the narrow, rutted one lined with bramble and gorse) so only a few km into the route. I spent 3 hours searching this morning with no luck, so wondered whether someone may have picked it up, popped it somewhere safe, then forgotten all about it?

Can the owner log into their iCloud account and then trace the phone from there?

That's very nice of you Stu. Me, James and Shell were probably theist to drop down that one-liner (very good description). Can confirm that had it been there we would have spotted it as we went up and down a couple times looking for the little snicket that dropped us onto the fire-road.

So I can only think that if it is there, it must be in the rutted snicket that we used (all the best finding that in all that greenery) or it was dropped elsewhere. See being last, it does have some sweeping benefits.

This being the rutted snicket I speak of. Might need some supersonic eyes and magnet detectors!

Sadly, it's in Airplane mode which I'm told disables everything.

That's the one Shaf :-bd

Interesting, airplane mode doesn’t turn off GPS

It does however turn off cellular/wifi so the device has no way of communicating its gps location.

Excuse me if I'm being thick but does airplane mode disable bluetooth?
If not, and assuming bluetooth is enabled, would it be possible to detect it on another device if close enough?
We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Not thick at all. I always thought Bluetooth wouldn't work with airplane mode. I brought my JBL bluetooth speaker (200g, but well invested) to listen to the Quran towards the end*. When/if I was feeling a bit down/lonely.

When I decided to use it (on that nasty double climb just after the happy road section once 100 miles had been toppled) I wasn't too worried about battery life. But, miraculously it all connected and worked (mp3 file must've downloaded into my phone from the last time).

So the answer to that is yes. But, would you be able to add a new device when the phone is in airplane mode. I really doubt (for us mere civilians) unless your using military tech!?

*Did it work? It definitely did.

I've just recently been informed that it may actually be higher up the hillside, so I'll resume the search at first light ... as the professionals are fond of saying.

Stu. Can you somehow grab his GPS file, or is that pointless cos he doesn't have the actual phone. That way your not stuck trying to find his actual line. There were alot of lines drawn getting to the thin pencil-line track.
