Reproofing Paramo etc

There was a post on how best to reproof jackets with Nikwax but I've scoured the forum with no success.

Seem to remember that it involved washing garment in a machine with the green Nikwax wash - then soaking in a bucket with warm water and TX direct - maybe a light spin in the machine then letting it drip dry. Tumble a bit (I don't have one)

Maybe that's it?

Thought I'd check as the method seemed fairly effective the last time

If it's fairly clean, no need to wash it, just bung it in a bucket or bowl of hand hot water with 50cc of TX10, agitate for a while then leave for a while, agitate again and then rinse thoroughly. You can also put it through a machine wash cycle but I think the bucket method works better.

Phil's advice is pretty spot on, though I would recommend that you clean the item(s) first (with Tech Wash), even if they appear clean. Otherwise you're likely to reduce the effectiveness of the waterproofing treatment. A bit like how painting over a slightly dusty surface (even if it looks fine) means some of the paint will stick to the dust and not the surface and you'll need to do it again soon anyway as it starts flaking off.

I tend to wash stuff in the washing machine with Tech Wash on whatever setting seems appropriate on your machine, mine has one called "outdoor care".

For the TX Direct (the waterproofing stuff) I use the bucket method Phil describes, though using a washing machine is also fine. I then leave it to drip dry above the bath. You may want to use gloves when giving it a stir, otherwise you'll find that your hands get Nikwax-ed!

For Nikwax, heat is unnecessary, so don't worry about not having a tumbledryer.
