Recommend me new rims

Post by woodsmith »

Currently running Race Face ARC 35's which have been 100% reliable over the last 25,000 miles but having twatted the front hard enough twice this year to put a minor flat spot on the bead shelf I'm thinking I should probably start looking for a replacent. Sadly the ARC 35's are no longer available, so what can you recommend? DT Swiss HX 581 ?
32 spoke
Alloy
Symetrical
Disc brake
Tubeless
27.5
35 to 40mm internal (prefer 35)

I've no personal experience of them (when has that been an issue with internet recommendations) but I have friends who say good things about their Velocity Blunt rims. They are 35mm wide as well.

Pretty tough by all accounts.

I discounted those with the initial build as they're 35 external 30mm internal and not strictly tubeless ready as there's no lip on thr bead shelf. I read reports of people having issues with tyres burping.

I've used a couple of pairs of Blunt 35 / P35 wheelsets for ages (10 yrs on one of them) and they've been fine. Quite dinged now but they've all pulled out, no flat spots. Seal up fine with WTB, Spesh, Vittoria and Maxxis tyres which all run fine at fairly low pressures. I need to replace one set and I'm looking at the DT or WTB ranges. The KOM I25s I have on my gravel bike have been reliable.

Replaced my dented P35s with DT 481 which have been indestructible. Also have DT XC and road rims which are equally good. Would go with the 581 if I was rebuilding, and they come with nipples as standard.

While I've not used the i35, I've been very happy with KOM i23, i25 and i40 rims so see no reason not to suggest the 35!

Same here, sealed up tubeless with Conti Cross Kings which weren't TLR and never been a problem with any other tyres I've fitted to them.

I am quite fond of the Halo Vapour 35's, great rims, build up very well and tubeless up a treat.

Like the Velocity Blunts, they're only 30mm internal.

I have easily run 3.0 tyres on both the 29 and 27.5" versions, another option is the Hope Fortus 35, they are a 35mm internal and 40mm external width rim.
