Re: Recommend me a quilt
NeoAir isn't the warmest apparently based on R rating but it's not the area I feel the cold from generally. I have used a layer of dry grass under it and under the ground sheet before when higher up over consecutive nights, that seemed to help when it's marginal.
That's a thought.. ground sheets, weight for weight is there anything that insulted better than a bit of tyvekk or shower curtain, a silver reflective coated sheet maybe? Can't imagine it'd make much difference, just thinking of a space blanket as a ground sheet.

Hi Wotsits, can I ask what temp you’re comfortable down to with the 250? And whether that’s with or without a an insulated jacket on. Thanks in advance
Wotsits wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 11:21 am Another vote for Cumulus here, lots of custom options & I’ve found their quality to be really good.
Got a custom 150 & 250, both made slightly bigger than standard & the 250 with 900 down, quantum pro outer. The zipped footbox means they can both open out flat & square & be used as a blanket, which I’ve also found useful.
Used the 250 on the TNR the other year, but found it slightly on the cold side when biviing at altitude. But it’s my go-to most of the year in the uk..

To update on my earlier post below, seems like I took the pain so you don't have to in future - all I can say is do not buy anything from Hyberg unless you take what you're given and won't need to return it. Their returns process is a total disaster of chat bot fob offs and the sort of service you'd expect from a bad branch of Sports Direct.
Despite them having their own return numbers and a post tracking number, despite me contacting them to follow up, my parcel sat in the local depot for a month uncollected (they said they'd collect 'in a few days') and is now on the way back to the UK. £30 registered insured post wasted.
Avoid. It's a shame as the quit itself is really nice .. just a few inches to short for me due to optimistic sizing on their site.
So if anyone's interested in the quilt below I'm open to an offer. I'd rather have the same in XL as the spec is good but I have little faith in them getting things right.

jameso wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 2:08 pm It arrived and I'm impressed by the design overall, but the size is misleading - a tad too short for me at 6' and a bit. It's long enough but pulls almost taught when I lie straight. The spec is 185cm which is the same as my PGD quilt but the Hyberg has neck and footbox draw cords which make if feel 10cm or so shorter when they're pulled in.
I'll send it back for an exchange but if anyone wants it for £252 (what it cost Inc vat) I'll cover post. It's got tags and receipts for that amount etc. Just shout. Might be easier than a return with the VAT to sort.
It's this one here, size L, good for 5' 10" or below I reckon

Bar stewards.
I have Thermarest Vesper 32 in long, bit more expensive these days than when I bought it, but can be had from places like Facewest and Ultralightoutdoorgear that are decent to deal with. Let me know and I can take some real-world measurements but I've been happy with it at 6'2"

I mostly use it with a Exped UL Synmat & a liner, either silk, or if i expect it to be colder, a thermal one. I also usually wear socks, merino grundies, beanie, buff & a base-layer- long sleeve if colder. I sleep colder the last couple of years & reckon i'm usually ok down to about +5c/6c-ish like that. Once the temp starts to edge putting a frost on things, thats when it starts to struggle. On the TNR we stayed at a campsite fairly high up & even when sheltered in trees, i had to put my jacket & pants on in the middle of the night, there was a slight frost in the morning though..
Hope the above info isn't too late to help!

Thanks - this was one option I was looking at and good to know on the height / length, cheers. tbh I generally do buy from places I trust or that have a good rep, Hyberg were a new one to me but now I know. If the resolution of all this is a simple refund I'll be buying more locally from a good outlet.due wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 6:02 pm Bar stewards.

Re: Recommend me a quilt
There's no official standard for temperature ratings for quilts in the same way that EN13537 does for sleeping bags but it seems like the manufacturers "sort of" follow that standard, probably by equating temp ratings with loft.
What doesn't get mentioned that often is that the standard assumes that you are wearing a complete base layer of some kind, i.e. you aren't naked. Always worth doing this anyway since it reduces the amount of body oils that get into the bag/quilt over time - it just keeps things cleaner.
You should always take the quoted rating as a starting point anyway, you might sleep warm or cold and so need to adjust any given rating by a small amount. Bit of chicken and egg though - you don't know how accurate the ratings are for you until you've tried at least one bag/quilt from reputable manufacturer.

Other half has the Thermostat Vesper comfort at 0 and -6 for hypothermia. A little bit bulky fits in an Ortlieb bikepacking pannier with 2/3 space left. Likes it .
Re: Recommend me a quilt
I sleep cold so moved from a Corus 32 to a Katabatic Flex 22 and 15, both are warm enough for UK spring through autumn.
Following the advice in this forum I also got an Exped Ultra 3R and very happy with the combo, never had a cold night since.
