Where to get replacement dynaplug plugs?

Post by riderdown »

Looked online at numerous places and all out of stock

Anyone know any UK or European stockists with them in stock?

There aren't any in the UK, they're on back order. You might get lucky with looking in Europe but it's a supply issue worldwide from Dynaplug at the moment. Looks like mid July at the earliest for stock to come into UK.

Very much related, I've just seen these: https://www.wtb.com/products/tcs-rocket-tyre-plug-kit-1 and am tempted to move to try/use them instead. I'm told you don't even need the kit and can use the plugs from the refill with a hex key instead.

While I really like Dynaplugs, counting single use plugs when you come to change a tyre at £2, £4, £6 is steep. If the WTB Rocket things work in a similar fashion, then being able to reuse the pointy bit seems a good idea to me.

The metal plugs are the WTB product/innovation, they can be used and refused with standard rubber strips.

This!

Seriously though, how much would you pay per repair? (And, I know I know, it's AMZ and so bad'n'all but still … )

Quite possibly. I'm down to my last 3 or 4 regular sized ones, and haven't had any mega ones for ~12 months though now so have ordered the WTB plugs to give ago regardless.

Swinnertons who I'd buy from quite regularly don't even list the brand anymore. I'm wondering it could be yet another US brand with UK distribution problems.

I think there's some weird tyre/tyre autocorrect going on with the link! I tried changing it and it didn't stick. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Edit: There is. Is this your doing Stu?

I was planning on using them for TD, and as others have pointed out, they’re not in stock anywhere in the EU. I ended up picking up some in Canada before the start of the race.

The WTB arrows look like a much more sustainable solution as they’ll work with regular bacon strips. I’m planning on switching over to them at some
Point.

I had some arrive yesterday. Followed advice just to buy the refill pack rathe than full kit as they're shaped to fit over a regular hex key. Will report back if or when I get to use them in anger. Pricey per-tip up front, but ought to pay for themselves over I reckon 6 months or so if the puncture fairy does her worst.
As an aside, I do like how many of these small items now come in little buff boxes rather than hard plastic packs.

What sort of diameter are those?
I was fixing a puncture the other week with the standard split spike tool and it ended up widening the hole such that one plug didn't fix it....

CBA digging out the callipers but here they are compared to a regular dynaplug. I'd say they're the same, ~4.5mm ø, and from memory the other would about match a 'mega' plug's diameter.

Cheers Pete. I might give them a whirl as I've had a few faffs with the normal insertion tool.

I heard today that Madison have just taken delivery of a load of Dynaplug stock, so hopefully that'll be filtering out to retailers soon.

Just had an update from my LBS, Madison apparently hoping to get stock in Oct.

I do actually like the look of the WTB ones, being able to use an allen key on both sizes instead of the insert tool is a good design.
