Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?
I'm always up for constructive criticism but equally aware that some people are just nasty. Went over to the Lexus forum to check a couple things and came across a thread glorifying chucking cyclists into ditches. They actually found it funny.
I tried to add a post that might or might not help educate those that are the 'lesser tosser'. But, did I!! Or could I say it better in future. This is not an invitation to go have a piece of your own mind but feel free if you are a member there.

Sadly Shaf, some people are just full of hate. If it wasn’t cyclists being the target it would be the disabled or any group that is “different”. Unfortunately this attitude is then fed by the culture wars from certain sections of politicians and the media who use it to divide the country and distract from their own failings.
Not read the linked thread but it’s usually better to poke mild fun: “sorry for delaying you from joining the 100 car queue 200m ahead “

Best bang your head against a brick wall Shaff - more enlightening and less painful
I've had a vast amount of experience of responding to enquiries from the public who have a different view to yours or your organisations, all within a work context so always being polite, constructive and comprehensive in responses. Rarely, less than 1% did we change peoples point of view or opinion. Once a certain type of person has disagreed with you, there is no changing them back.
The cyclist hatred continues to baffle me, a consequence of my tendency to objectiveness and evidence led analysis of any given situation

Thinking a bit more about this. Maybe better to push against the hatred part rather than the cyclist bit.
As Phil notes, playing the logic card doesn’t really work as you are battling against a raw emotion.

Rise above it, maintain your sense of cheerful superiority. You've already won without playing their silly games - fitter, healthier, faster in traffic, richer not wasting money on motors/fuel/insurance/tax/repairs/carwashes, cleaner/greener, more freedom, easy to park, the list goes on...
Of course to achieve full superiority you'll have to get rid of your motor
.
Actually as usual it's all about size...

Just remember that internet forums are a tiny microcosm and do not reflect wider views. It’s easy to think that the world hates you when all it really is are a load of portly pasty peats with time on their hands to type sub standard that nobody really cares about. I include myself in this characterisation btw

Just No Dave! Never be tempted to get involved in another forum, you never know where it may end up....

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

Very interesting input from everyone. Yes, maybe a bit of tongue in cheek might make people reflect (or not) more appropriately. Thankfully I didn't use the '2 abreast is best' card. Some people just don't get it!

I left a facebook group because of the anti-cyclists on the road rhetoric - the irony being that it was a MTB group.

Re: Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?
Same. I left another forum due to some form of hate they were displaying. Very unusual indeed what people write behind the computer screens!!
In fact after I saw that (and one of the main admin sorts not pulling up yhe thread poster but instead doing an lol emoji) thread I wondered whether it was/is the right thread for me. As many others, I also left singleshat a year or 2 ago. Can't believe some people are happy with the rethoric on there but prefer to stay away from here.
Oh well, such is life and I always see those that go about filled with hate for others, as being ones to feel sorry for. Must be tough always being vexed. In other news, I hope them idiots that have been throwing cyclists into ditches get some hood prison time. Hope they get a good comeuppance too!!

You dont beat irrational hate with well crafted fact based logical arguments. As Phil notes, playing the logic card doesn’t really work as you are battling against a raw emotion.

To be fair. I just read a few more posts on there. It's quite amusing really what people in the metal box feel lol. cos they don't actually know how to be hard enough to cycle.

Chucking cyclists into ditches? There are plenty of people on here who consider a ditch to be premium-level accomodation.

(Like the internet )Many are hard in a car where they are safe/ in no personal danger. It's quite amusing really what people in the metal box feel
Re: Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?
I think some / many hatred based comments can be responded to with a "your comment says more about you than about anything else" type response.
If nothing it might make them think, but probably not as they don't do that...

I heard it described perfectly, a few days ago....
"It's like playing chess with a pigeon. It has no consideration for the rules, knocks the pieces over, shits all over the board, then struts around thinking that it won"
I'm trying to resist the urge to reply to most of them, TBH.

Re: Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?
Such an amazing analogy. I decided that my first response was enough as it's no point discussing (trying not to use the word 'debate' or 'argue') with low value people. I looked at the thread briefly after I opened this one but didn't bother replying to any of the further comments. Have decided it's probably not the forum for me after all.
I have a Lexus and it's a lovely piece of engineering. Pity but I guess not frequenting that forum saves me more time to do other things.

Re: Could I have explained myself better (on a cyclist hate thread)?
After the recent GCN vid about drivers killing pedestrians (thread on here) I decided to post that vid to the Lexus forum.

Thought I'd make a start at trying to change the narrative and terminology. It's not just in the cycling stuff that media uses dodgy language, but also when people of the wrong colour/religion/ethnicity are murdered by governments.
