Possibly stupid thru axle query

Post by BridlewayBimbler »

Apologies if this is blindingly obvious, or it has been asked before  -its been a hell of a week!- but is there a way to install a 15mm thru axle wheelset onto a 12mm thru axle fork?

Thanks in advance.

Most through axle wheelsets these days come with a set of spare hub caps. Pull the one for the 15mm off, put the one for the 12mm axle on. If your wheel doesn't have this feature then there are converter tubes that sit inside the hub and shim the difference.

The above assumes that the hub is the right width for the fork.

Thanks. To clarify, my current bike has a 12mm x 100mm spacing in the fork, and the wheelset I'm looking at has 15mm x 100mm spacing for the front wheel. The hub is a Shimano HG.

Had just this setup and simply use a slide on axle adapter, as explained above. Just a sleeve that sits over the axle, saves faffing with end caps.
