What's happened to Liam Glen? His tracker didn't update for a while, checked an hour or two ago and he was moving but now a long way down the field. As of now he's marked as scratched.

Looks like he baled at Ovando which would make sense if he had a real bad issue

That's a real shame as he was going well... Bear? Broken bike? red neck?

Had a chat with Liam this morning. He's mentally calm but physically in a bad way. He said his body feels like it's eating itself. He's warm and dry in a hotel and choosing self care over self punishment

Keep on an eye on Meaghan Hackinen from Canada, at the moment she is smashing the Womens record!

I see once again the 3 male contenders are all close to each other, and Mike's record is ahead again after some overtook it for a while. As above, Meaghan Hackinen looks very strong, and was ahead of Lael's record for a while too. Not surprising I guess as she is a 24hr time trial world champ! :-bd

Some of the conditions this year look absolutely crazy! :o One of Ulrich's Insta updates said he had spent over 20 hours traversing high altitude passes in driving snow, mud and feezing rain. He said it was by far the hardest day he'd ever had on a bike!

A whole bunch of riders static at Eureka. I wonder if the snows come in at Red Meadow Pass

Looks like Laurens Ten Dam is heading to get something fixed - not sure why else he'd be doing 65mph off route

The lead two are now some way ahead of Mike Hall's record, 50 & 30 miles respectfully. Dunno what the terrain after Flagg Ranch is like so don't know how that equates to time.

His tyres are shot and he's run out of tubes, so he's off to a bike shop.
Josh Ibbett mentioned hed had confirmation from Liam Glen that he had scratched as he was suffering from Rhabdomyolysis, which is really.serious, and can rapidly lead to cellular degradation and renal.failure!

That's the same thing that caused Miron Golfman to collapse just before the finish of the Highland Trail a few weeks ago! Sounded nasty.

These guys have incredible willpower to defy the messages their body is sending them. I guess it's a fine line between managing your effort to stay within your limits and tipping over into somthing dangerous.

I know! From what Josh was saying, Liam.thinks he may have developed it while racing the HT550?

Was that in 2019? He screamed round to Ullapool but bailed as he was weeing blood!

I see Duncan is making good progress, in the middle of the main bunch :-bd

Good progress until it all fell apart. I made the rookie mistakes. Too hard too early, and didn’t get enough food (had food that wasn’t working for me) or rest. So by the time I got to Helena I had saddle sores and neck pain, and was basically a bit of a zombie. Days 2-5 were cold and wet and that added to the fatigue. Took a day at Helena to consider my options and decided I wasn’t going to recover enough to push on and also was concerned about how hard it would be bail at any point after Butte.

It’s a hell of a route, and the remoteness was something else.

Rabdo for Liam sounds nasty. It can often times lead to an ICU admission. Anyone know how he is now and which hospital he's at?

Mike still in the lead I guess!

Looks like Justinas and Ulrich are still ahead of Mike's dot. Well done them.

Yes they are. It looks like Justinas, Ulrich and Laurens missed the worst of the storms in The Basin. Not such good luck, it seems, for those further back!

Re Liam, I only saw a quote from his partner, stating that he was safe and recovering. No mention of any hospital admission.

Thanks BWB. Hope he makes a swift recovery and back on it soon enough. Going to the TD after setting off Rhabdo from the HT550. Proper hardcore!

Hard luck Duncan - it's a hell of a route to take on so fair play for giving it a go. I've procrastinated for years on it but never made that leap yet!

I am just home after a couple of days away so catching up. A proper race at the front.
Tough luck Duncan, some rough weather out there. Will you be back in future?
I had been following Liam Glen as well, hope he recovers. I had not heard of his condition but it sounds nasty.

He could have stopped, based on the Josh Ibert update

Or

He is trying to catch the leader on the quiet

That's a shame Duncan, I'm sorry to hear it went south on you.
