Does anyone use Strava app for recording?
I just can't seem to get the setting correct for it to continue recording but without leaving all the battery to drain! Does anyone have any secrets of how to have it record optimally but without draining my phone battery within an hour or 2... Please, thanks.

Is it enabled to work in the background when phone(screen) is off ?
Its only the screen being on ( or a wrecked battery)that drains phones quickly.

That doesn't sound right at all, Shaf. I'll only use the app for recording when I'm messing about on the fat bike and not using a computer to record, but a ~4 hour ride will barely make a dent in battery level. Do you have anything else draining the battery at the same time? Bluetooth? Poor/searching for cell signal?redefined_cycles wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 9:23 am I just can't seem to get the setting correct for it to continue recording but without leaving all the battery to drain! Thanks John/Hyppy. So, when clicking record the phone tells me I need to turn off battery saver. But then when he screen times out it becomes one straight line if that makes sense. So I had to turn off the screen from turning off!!
How do I enable it to work with screen off. I remember this issue years ago and it's what finally led me to buy a GPS unit!!

I wonder if it is this setting that I need to ammend (pause app activity if unused).

This is the straight line it seems to make as soon as screen turns off

Re: Does anyone use Strava app for recording?
No idea as I dont use it to record. Mybold phone used to drop gps all the time though so might be phone rather than strava( ie gps only works when screen on)
That was my phones problem ( it was also old and cheap)

OK. Thanks John. I will try to mess about with GPS settings I think. Ta

Re: Does anyone use Strava app for recording?
I'm afraid I'm an iPhone rather than Android user and so am now totally out of suggestions.
Re: Does anyone use Strava app for recording?
Not sure I can help, but it shouldn't do that. I can leave mine running in the background for ages and very little battery drain. Tends to just leave my phone in a pocket and save the ride at the end.
It's Def not the unused app setting though, that just disabled permissions on apps you've not used for a while, so won't apply to Strava which is being used. I had this on an older android, where the battery saving settings paused apps when you locked the screen. There should be settings in the battery saving app to exclude certain apps or change the saving level to be less intrusive...

I don't use Strava, but my money's on this. Have had it with other GPS apps.I had this on an older android, where the battery saving settings paused apps when you locked the screen. Re: Does anyone use Strava app for recording?
Thanks Dave. Have changed some more settings and offered Strava more permissions. Though the guide didn't match up to what I could see in my Aamsung settings. Will see if I spot any positive changes on today's walk.
Hopefully GPS watch should arrive in the coking weeks so will be sorted. It reminds me (sorry if I'm repeating) that it was initially this issue of battery drain and not being able to record accurately with screen off, that I ended up buying my first ever Garmin unit. It was the same as what Mike Hall was using/mentioning but it never got me any records

Re: Does anyone use Strava app for recording?
I'm not a Strava user but to avoid the "straight line" problem try the following :-
1. Go into Settings / Apps / All Apps / Strava / Permissions / Location / then choose "Allow all the time"
The following settings may or may not exist depending on Android version.
2. Go into Settings / Apps / All Apps / Strava / Battery / then choose "Unrestricted"
3. Go into Settings / Battery / "Background power consumption management" / Strava / then choose "Don't restrict background power usage"
