27.5 Plus tyre recommendations

After riding fatbikes for a few years, I've got myself a Pinnacle Ramin 3 plus bike.
As the name suggests, it has 27.5 plus wheels.
Any tyre recommendations?
They can be anything between 2.6" and 3".

Maxxis Chronicles in 2 inch or 2.8 flavour. Just so happens that I have some sat in the back garden too if you want to make an offer

Really depends what you want as these days you can get minnions ( chunky snd grippy)to ranglers ( small blocks faster rolling ) and most things inbetween

I use maxxis ikon as they were £40 for 2 and are reasonable across a broad range of conditions. Never used minnions on the bike but i dont do full on mtb stuff on my + bike ( or if i do i am going slowly )

Chronicles were well regarded but never tried

Since you didn't mention what you want them for, I'll first suggest a tyre with heaps of grip.

If you liked the rolling resistance of the fatbike (given you rode Lou, Al Mighty or similar) Schwalbe's Magic Mary is the way to go . True to size 2.8", painfully draggy, but one of the grippiest tyres on Earth.

I use them on my ssp steel (former HT, now susser,) which I only ride in winter (kind of a training bike) or for summit riding, when almost all uphill means carrying the bike anyways. So mainly situations where I wan't as much grip as possible and don't care about drag.

Incredibly grippy; braking, traction and most of all cornering. If nothing else matters, go with Mary. For the amount of chunk fairly light. I ride it with a 80 g insert (a little puncture protection for the soft alloy rim but mainly to reduce air volume/get more progression from the tyre), since I struggle to find the sweet spot of rebound and puncture protection with this tyre's volume.

Will be trying a 2.6" version once I've gone through the tread or damaged it beyond repair. 2.8" and full suss + insert + flexy frame mutes just a bit too much, but it was what I rode on the HT. Will see how much grip will be traded, but given the abundance, should be good. Go with the lightest possible options (true weight can be found eg on r2-bike.de and bikeimport.ch). Also Soft compound only.

Faster running, but still okay grip wise are Nobby Nics. Looks for 2.6", Super Trail (sidewall version) and Soft (compound).

Fasterer; Wicked Will. Would make a great combo for single track focused MTB; Nobby Nic up front, Wicked Will rear. Speed Grip compound (don't think any other available for 27.5 x 2.6) is kind of okay in the wet, but depending on what and how you're riding, may be disappointing.

Fastererer; G-One. For "grandad MTB'ing"

I just stuck with tyres I know and with one brand, since other options have been mentioned, but for another brand, I can't really recommend Onza unless you ride very wide rims. The 2.6" Porcupine really needs a i40 mm rim to work. Horrid shape on i30 rims and despite otherwise interesting stats, it's cornering grip was very poor unless leaned into the corner heavily.

I thought I'd better add s few more details, to help out.
The Ramin's wheels have WTB ST i35 rims.
They'll be used for off road touring, bikepacking, day rides, nothing too knarly.

Mine was a Ramin 3+ which I was running the 3.0 on btw. So you should be fine with none-bulky 3.0.

The Teravail Oxbow (used to be the Cornado) is a good option, fairly grippy and fast rolling, I have the 29x2.8, the 27.5 is a 27.5x3.0 version.

Maxis Rekon in 2.8 were pretty good. Loads of traction and surprisingly quick rolling - they are also reasonably light for a big tyre.

I found you need to get the psi spot on though to get the most out of theses tyres

I was going to post: Don't overlook Specialized tyres - Purgatory or Ground Control, but they've stopped doing 2.8 or 3" it seems. Shame.
I have a 3" Nobby Nic spare if lightly used is an option.

I'm a huge fan of the 3" Chronicle. They make me smile every time I ride them, and I'm always surprised at how well they roll (a big contrast to the 3" Nobby Nic that they replaced).

They're discontinued, but I've got a few pairs in the 27.5 size stashed in a box. If anybody really wants some, feel free to PM me…

... and how long they lasted ! I still have the original Chronicle on the front of my Singular Rooster... it's been going faultlessly for 8 or 9 years .... could be a victim of it's own success ... everlasting lightbulb type thing, once they're fitted you don't need to replace them often so poor sales ...

I have WTB Ranger in 2.8 on the back as the 3.0 was a bit close to the chain and used to slew mud off the tyre an into the derailleur... the 2.8 is a great tyre.
