Five Ten Trailcross SPD would seem the obvious choice if you like/fit Five Tens but want laces and some flex. Also on bargain blowout across the Ashley Empire.
I have an old pair of specialized Rime that fit the bill except it’s Velcro and not laces… but they’ve changed it to laces and a dial, so may work for you?
There’s also a couple in the Bontrager range but remember the SSR being a popular shoe
Shimano AM9? They seem to be available cheap and I’ve done lots of riding and hike-a-bike in an older, now discontinued model. They’re billed as a downhill shoe but have a bendy sole and I find them v comfy to walk in. Not much grip, mind.
Not so sure about the AM9's - velcro closure looks a bit naff
However I've come across the EX5's which look similar to the old MT5's I had yonks ago which fitted well. Except they aren't available in this country!
Did I miss the news release that mtbing in the UK is no more?? WTF are shimano playing at - or are they waiting for CRC to re-appear out of the ashes (pun intended)
I can get them from across the pond but given dicky sizing it's not worth the risk. *sigh* Rant over. My Scott Cruis-R's are probably going to have to be dragged through another season. Anyone want some size 46 5/10 kestrels?

I'd just realised that last week's extended hike-a-bikes has killed my Pearl Izumi X-Alp Summits, with a hole worn at the front of the cleat plate of each, so am in the market for something too. I bloody hate shopping for shoes.
I actually have a pair, which I think I got on your recommendation! They are getting a bit tired and the cleats dig into my feet when walking but I'm thinking I'll use them anyway until they fall apart and see whats available then
I've got the Lake MX-201, which have a much wider toe box than most. They do a cheaperer one, which is also lace up, which I will probably buy next time, as the single Boa on mine is problematic. https://www.saltdogcycling.com/lake-mx1 ... ike-shoes/

The Scott CruzR with lace looks promising.
I've got a wide foot. Is it good for a wide fit?
Cheers
Wide-ish I'd say - my feet are wide and they fit well going the cycle shoe standard one size up. Toe box isnt big however so thin socks only. I also only paid 60 quid for them. Quick drying too

Still using them I use a slightly more rigid insole so don’t feel the cleat digging.
