Looks like Alex did stop for 3hrs at Shenevall bothy, but even with that he took just 10 1/2 hours from Inverbroom to Poolewe!![]()

Re: HT550 - 2024
Looks like he slowed down (a lot) on the climb out of Glen Lichd and over to Glen Affric.
I had memories of a section that was lifting the bike over my head to make progress. I'd warned Cath about it around 18mths ago when we did a loop in the area it turned out to be a slightly steeper smooth slab! I must have been tired.
He's still 3hrs ahead of Angus Young so possible finish around lunchtime tomorrow. Trackleaders is showing just under 6hrs stopped so far.

The pace/endurance of the lead riders is so impressive, and the stand out for me is Kerry McP. Folk talk about the importance of saving 100g here and there on gear, but the weight of her bike and kit, as a proportion of her body weight, must put her at a significant disadvantage #gokerry

I'm just looking at Alex M's tracking history, and can't see any obvious points in his speed vs time plot where he's had a sleep? Maybe an hour or so just after the 40hr mark?

Re: HT550 - 2024
Whats the current 'record' & what time does Alex M have to finish by to beat it?
Amazing stuff, maybe riding the route with minimum kit is the way things are going to be at the pointy end now...

Re: HT550 - 2024
3 days 7 hours 15 minutes by Angus Young last year.
So with an 0830 start time Angus would have finished at 1545. Alex has remained about 3hrs ahead of Angus's time for the last twenty four hours or so it looks like he'll finish around lunchtime.

Allen's made it round the top, that means it's all downhill now, right?
Re: HT550 - 2024
It looks like Ed Procter's feet got the better of him. Shame, as he was well up there.

I can't help thinking, as someone who has not done it, that the run in from Fort William to Bridge of Orchy is a real sting in the tail after the distance already ridden, especially if you fall into that mental black hole of thinking 'almost there'

We go out into the hills to lose ourselves, not to get lost. You are only lost if you need to be somewhere else and if you really need to be somewhere else then you're probably in the wrong place to begin with.

The section from Devil's staircase to Tyndrum seems to take for ever!

Well done that man! Crazy how someone can condition themselves both physically and mentally to keep going.

Incredible to dotwatch and such speed with so little sleep.
Its amazing how they must condition the mind and body to work with little sleep.
